On September 18, 2023, VLU continued to sign an MOU with University of Newcastle (Australia), with the goal of expanding foreign training programs, exchanging students and lecturers, cultural interchange, and developing scientific research projects.
University of Newcastle (UON) was established in 1965 and is a public university with a modern learning environment, offering cutting-edge programs in New South Wales, Australia. It ranks among the top 173 universities in the world according to the QS World University Rankings 2024 (released in 2023) and is ranked 139th by the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2023 (released in 2022). The university has achieved a 5+ star in the QS Stars Overall Excellence 2022 awards. OUN is home to over 29,000 students from more than 140 countries.
In 2021, the University of Newcastle (OUN) cooperated with Van Lang University (VLU) to implement international bachelor's programs in Finance and International Business. After that, in 2022, we continued to expand cooperation activities to develop franchise training programs and student exchange programs and promote scientific research activities.
Van Lang University is the first educational unit in Vietnam to implement a 100% international bachelor's program in Finance, International Business major in association with Newcastle University. As of 2023, the program has executed 3 training courses with many positive impact activities.
On September 18, 2023, Van Lang University signed a strategic partnership agreement with the University of Newcastle (Australia). The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Ms. Sarah Hooper - Australian Consulate General, Australian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as lecturers, staff, and students from Van Lang University's international bachelor's program, marked an important turning point in the two units' comprehensive cooperation development.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu, President of Van Lang University, shared: “Looking back over the past two years, we are proud of the values that parties have brought to the students. This MOU is a new milestone in our cooperation, helping our students broaden opportunities to enhance their professional skills, improve cultural understanding, and expand connections through practical training and experiences.”
According to the MOU, Van Lang students will benefit from several cooperative initiatives, short-term courses, and appealing cultural exchange activities. The two parties want to exchange lecturers, arrange professional exchange seminars, and expand collaboration in scientific research activities in particular.
Prof. Alex Zelinsky AO, the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Newcastle, presented the achievements of both institutions in 2021 and 2022. He stated: "I have seen the potential and development opportunities in Vietnam, a country of young, talented, and creative human resources. Through the strategic partnerships agreement with Van Lang University, I hope many more generations of students have an opportunity to study at OUN, contributing to developing the education systems of both countries."
With the goal of becoming an international university, Van Lang University is continually developing practical training programs and collaborating with many famous training universities worldwide to provide students with a comprehensive and global experience. From 2021, Van Lang University collaborate with University of Newcastle to create an international program for bachelor's degrees in Finance and International Business.
Students study a 100% English program taught by highly qualified professors across 240 required credits and 4 "Going Global" subjects. Students who participate in the program have the chance to spend 1-2 semesters abroad with several exchange programs to assist in expanding their knowledge, skills, and experience. Fourth-year students have the option of transferring to Newcastle University or continuing their studies at Van Lang University, with the added benefit of receiving all of the advantages of being a Van Lang University and a Newcastle University student. Students who complete the training program are awarded a bachelor's degree from University of Newcastle.
