Van Lang University students meet Japanese singer Rili Sapphire

On February 25, 2023, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Van Lang University hosted a meeting with Japanese singer Rili Sapphire as part of her tour for the 8th Vietnam-Japan Festival. The event was organized by the Oriental Studies department, which specializes in Japanese studies.

As the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan approaches in 2023, many meaningful events have been planned to introduce Japanese culture and traditions to students and the public. One such event was hosted by the Oriental Studies department, which specializes in Japanese studies, within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Van Lang University. On February 25, 2023, the department organized a meeting program with singer Rili Sapphire as part of her tour for the 8th Vietnam-Japan Festival.

The program was attended by Dr. Ho Quoc Hung - Vice Dean of the VLU’s Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities; Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh Nhu - Head of Oriental Studies; along with many lecturers, students majoring in Oriental Studies (specializing in Japanese studies), and students interested in Japanese culture.

Rili. Sapphire is a well-known singer in Japan, known as "the Cinderella of the Japanese music industry", who has performed in festivals, television, and radio broadcasts. During the show, Rili Sapphire performed popular songs among young Vietnamese people such as Ashita no Kaze, Gurenge, Yuki no Hana, etc…

Rili Sapphire also shared: "This is my fifth country to travel to, and my first time in Vietnam. I have found the Vietnamese people to be incredibly kind, especially the VLU students. Music comes from the soul, and I hope to convey great energy and joy to everyone through my singing. Additionally, I aspire to use my lyrics to heal those who need uplifting for their souls."

Rili. Sapphire guided VLU students to try on traditional Uchikake costumes.

Apart from the exciting atmosphere of J-Pop songs, singer Rili. Sapphire also discussed with VLU students about the cultures of Vietnam and Japan, including traditional dishes, architecture, and clothing. The students were even guided by singer Rili. Sapphire to try on Uchikake - a type of kimono worn by Japanese brides on their wedding day. Uchikake is a red robe with a crane motif that is worn instead of a regular kimono, as cranes are considered a symbol of good fortune in Japanese culture.
