On April 24, 2024, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Van Lang University organized the workshop "Music and Maica Angels," providing an opportunity for lecturers and psychology students to engage with and learn from experts in the field of music therapy.
The workshop featured the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tho, Director of National Mental Hospital II, a member of the Vietnam Musicians Association, and one of the pioneers of music therapy practice in Vietnam. Also present was Meritorious Artist Hoang Diep, Conductor and former Director of the Performance Center at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, an expert in music therapy. The two experts introduced Van Lang University's psychology students to the application of music therapy for children with autism.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tho provided students with insights into various autism spectrum disorders, three stages of music therapy, and several techniques commonly applied in the therapeutic process, such as the hand-contact method and instrument-contact technique.
A highlight of the workshop was the practical application of music in psychological therapy through experimental music therapy exercises combined with therapeutic instruments such as the piano, chime bells, tambourine, and others. The workshop atmosphere became lively and enthusiastic thanks to the eagerness of Van Lang University students during the practice sessions, guided attentively by MSc. Meritorious Artist. Hoang Diep.
The experience of engaging with experts in the workshop and exploring the healing power of music provided lecturers and psychology students with valuable lessons, enhancing their professional knowledge and offering Van Lang University students intriguing experiences within their chosen field of study.
