On June 29, 2023, Van Lang University, in partnership with the Chinese Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City and Chi Cultural Joint Stock Company, organized the "Book Reception and bookcases donation to spread love Ceremony," the "Scholarship Ceremony," and the "Book Review Award Ceremony for Chinese Literature." These activities marked the three key collaborative events between Van Lang University and Chi Cultural Joint Stock Company in 2023.
In April 2022, Van Lang University officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chi Cultural Joint Stock Company to organize many meaningful academic and cultural exchange activities for VLU students.
In 2023, Chi Cultural Joint Stock Company, in collaboration with the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, made significant contributions to promoting a reading culture among the youth community through the establishment of the "Lan Toa Yeu Thuong" Bookshelf in the Library reading room and donated 1,115 books to VLU readers. In which, there are 1,065 copies of translated Chinese books in Vietnamese, and 50 copies of Chinese-language books covering many topics: literature, successful entrepreneurs, language textbooks, and more. Sponsored by Chi Cultural Joint Stock Company and the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, the donated books have a total value of 147,356,000 VND. This book donation aims to contribute to building a reference source for academic studies, teaching, and entertainment through the understanding of renowned Chinese authors and their literary works.
On the morning of June 29, 2023, Van Lang University, in partnership with the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and Chi Cultural Joint Stock Company, organized a Book Reception Ceremony, along with the scholarship presentation to VLU students and the Book Review contest award ceremony, inspiring and motivating the youth on their journey of discovering and claiming knowledge.
Representing Van Lang University, Dr. Phan The Hung, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages stated, “By 2023, the collaboration between Van Lang University and Chi Cultural Joint Stock Company has been achieving remarkable results. In addition to CHIBOOKS, the Chinese Consulate General has also shown great interest and support for VLU students. This is a valuable gift that provides further motivation for students to strive harder on their path to self-improvement.”
Mr. Luc Binh, Chief of Staff at the Chinese Consulate General, expressed the high regard that the Chinese Consulate General holds for cultural cooperation with Vietnamese universities, including Van Lang University. He emphasized the significance of the collaboration between the Chinese Consulate General and Chi Cultural Joint Stock Company in donating books, organizing the Book Review contest, and granting scholarships to outstanding students at Van Lang University, demonstrating the strong agreement between the two parties, as well as Vietnam and China in supporting young generation with comprehensive access to global knowledge, further strengthen the development of friendly relations between China and Vietnam.
Launched in May 2023, the “Literary books reviews writing” Contest organized by Van Lang University, in collaboration with Chi Cultural Joint Stock Company (CHIBOOKS), aims to promote a reading culture, improve the spirit and love for reading among the student community at Van Lang University. After more than a month since the launch, the contest has received significant attention from VLU students, resulting in a total of 95 submissions. Ms. Nguyen Le Chi, Director of Chi Cultural Joint Stock Company, stated, “The contestants not only wrote with overwhelming emotions but also delved deep into their thoughts to explore many different meanings and values in terms of writing style, artistry, and content. Many essays demonstrated a clever connection between literary works and real-life experiences, including unique perspectives, philosophies, and reflections of the younger generation. CHIBOOKS is delighted and touched to be part of the students’ journey of literary exploration, making life more meaningful.”
After more than a month of organization, the “Book Review Writing” Contest has identified 7 students who have deeply understood the value and meaning of 5 Chinese literary works: "Frog" by Mo Yan, "The Scenery of the Lake and the Mountain" by Zhou Daxin, "Skywalker" by Liu Xinglong, "Civil Service" by Huang Pei Hua, and "The Murder in Shangling Village" by Fan Yi Ping.

Pham Thi Ngoc Mai, the first prize winner of the “Touching book reviews writing” Contest, expressed, "This award represents not only an achievement but also a reminding milestone of my responsibility to promote a reading culture within the community. As young individuals, it is our duty to strive for self-improvement, continuous learning, and exploration, because we are just like fish swimming freely in the vast ocean of knowledge."
In an effort to encourage the students’ spirit, the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City awarded 10 scholarships to outstanding students majoring in Oriental Studies (Chinese Studies Major) and Chinese Language at Van Lang University for the academic year 2021-2022. The total value of the scholarships amounted to 50,000,000 VND.

In the age of digitalization and rapid advancements in information technology, young people are increasingly exposed to many electronic books and newspapers. Preserving and spreading the love for physical books has become a pressing matter in improving knowledge and culture among the young generation. Hopefully, the efforts from universities, organizations, and businesses will play a vital role in nurturing students’ love for books, providing motivation on their learning journey, and spreading positive values to the community.
