Research of Institute of Cultural Heritage and Development Studies (INCHES)

Researching and building a basic scientific basis for heritage conservation, urban development and the environment is a big issue that needs attention.

INCHES Institute has been and will continue to focus on research - application, technology transfer in training, international publication according to the strategy of becoming the most admired young university in Asia, in the top 700 Universities in the world.

Operational Objectives

The Institute for Research on Cultural Heritage and Development operates with three main goals:

Conservation Research

Research on conservation of cultural heritage (architecture and urban) in the southern region (from Thua Thien Hue to the South, Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding areas)

Research and Development

Research on urban development in the area, the urban area of Ho Chi Minh City and other specific cases and related specializations.

Art conservation research

Research and preserve the artistic values of architecture and fine arts in the southern region

With a research team participating in large national projects, INCHES Institute aims to perform the following functions:

Advisor

Advisor

Advising and assisting the school board and school administrators in implementing the development strategy, creating a unique feature for VLU, especially in the field of cultural heritage conservation and development.

Specialization

The institute specializes in the fields of training, research and design of architecture, planning (urban, rural and development) and environment.
Training

Training

Specialized in training courses in the areas of urban heritage conservation and architecture, urban planning, environment and development.
Network expansion

Network expansion

Linking with specialized and prestigious units of foreign countries, helping researchers, staff and students access course activities, training, academic exchanges at home and abroad.

Research Engagements & Partners

The Institute has more than 20 important partners who are specialized units, prestigious domestic and foreign universities specializing in training in the field of urban heritage conservation and architecture and urban planning.

Up to now, INCHES is a member of three major organizations in the field of World Heritage Conservation and Development:

Heritage Asia – Pacific (A Network of Heritage Practitioners Supported by Whitrap Shanghai); ASEAN Network of Heritage Management and Cultural Tourism Studies (Singapore); ICOMOS ASEAN Network (Singapore).

INCHES Institute partners mainly focus on cooperation in the following areas:

Supporting activities related to research programs and projects, organize seminars, field surveys, design studios; Sending and exchanging experts and scholars with expertise to collaborate in implementing projects and university research to work at the Institute and at partner institutions.

Research Objectives

The objectives of the institute in scientific research activities are summarized as follows:

Building and managing a research team

Support and implement the strategic goals of developing the spearhead research group of Van Lang University.

Create and innovate research products

Develop a system of high-quality researchers, and publish research according to international standards (ISI/Scopus) for the university.
