The workshop “Training on Climate Change Knowledge, Mitigation Solutions, and Adaptation," organized by the Faculty of Environment, Van Lang University, in coordination with Ho Chi Minh City Department of Natural Resources and Environment, attracted the attention and participation of reporters, editors, and communicators working in Ho Chi Minh City.

Chairing the workshop is Associate Professor Dr. Le Thi Kim Oanh - Dean of the Faculty of Environment at Van Lang University. According to Associate Professor Dr. Le Thi Kim Oanh, climate change is a widely publicized issue and has a significant influence on society. Therefore, grasping basic information, understanding, and sharing this global issue will play an essential role in supporting the propagation, reception, and dissemination of information to the community by reporters, editors, and communicators working in Ho Chi Minh City.

In the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Le Thi Kim Oanh introduced attendees to basic concepts of climate change. Greenhouse gases that cover the Earth will trap the sun's heat, leading to global warming and climate change. There are many direct or indirect causes for this phenomenon, which are generally divided into natural and man-made causes. Each cause brings different consequences. If this issue is not promptly aware of and overcome, the gradual increase in temperature over time can disrupt the inherent balance of nature and bring many dangers to humans as well as living creatures on Earth.

Associate Professor Dr. Le Thi Kim Oanh - Dean of the Faculty of Environment, Van Lang University is presenting that climate change is recently becoming one of the most urgent and concerned issues.

Associate Professor Dr. Le Thi Kim Oanh shows that climate change in Ho chi Minh city varies depending on time and location. At the same time, the changes in this city are more or less different from other cities and regions. By better understanding about environmental issues, reporters and editors could be able to choose the practical and appropriate images to convey the information which brings the most effective communicative results. In the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Le Thi Kim Oanh also provides practical questions for attendees so that they can discuss together and provoke many thoughtful insights.

Regarding the content of the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Lê Thị Kim Oanh, along with journalists, editors, and communicators, discussed further the methods of addressing climate change issues globally and specifically in Ho Chi Minh City. Many highly applicable approaches were proposed, adding enthusiasm to the exchange session. With the advantage of being able to write, each journalist and communicator can become part of the force involved in mobilizing resources to cope with climate change at the local level, ringing the alarm bell for residents of the city to have a clearer understanding of their role in environmental protection and the implementation of climate change mitigation policies. In the enthusiastic and exciting atmosphere of the session, lecturers, reporters, editors, and communicators also shared new concepts such as "smart climate cities," "carbon reduction cities," and the regulations and policies of the country in addressing and mitigating climate change issues in Vietnam.

According to Vietnam's sustainable development strategies, GDPs (green GDP, human development index, environmental sustainability index) are one of the important factors that were and are being implemented by the government, encouraging people to participate together. In the series of activities aimed at the common goals, the workshop " Training on Climate Change Knowledge, Mitigation Solutions, and Adaptation" organized by the Faculty of Environment of Van Lang University in collaboration with the City Department of Natural Resources and Environment has provided lots of fundamental information to reporters, editors and communicators working in districts and wards in HCM city. From this workshop, it is hoped that much of this positive information will continue to be disseminated by each participant to the community and society every day, contributing to the effort to build and protect a sustainable environment.
