On September 26, 2024, the Faculty of Mechanical - Electrical & Computer Engineering at Van Lang University organized a workshop titled "Applying Artificial Intelligence to Climate Change Mitigation". The workshop provided new perspectives on the role of AI in addressing environmental and climate change issues, as well as the application of machine learning techniques in architectural design, modeling, and energy optimization for buildings.

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in various fields is an inevitable trend in today’s digital age,” said Dr. Le Hung Tien, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical - Electrical & Computer Engineering. “The Faculty has been promoting the application of digital transformation and AI in various fields for many years, from scientific research to teaching and training. In the future, the Faculty will continue to develop AI-based courses for research and expand teaching to equip students with various software, serving and developing their future careers.

The program featured four presentations that explored the application of artificial intelligence in addressing climate change:

"AI for Climate Change," presented by Dr. Le Hung Tien, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical - Electrical & Computer Engineering at Van Lang University.

"Technology in Sustainable Green Architecture: Application of IoT (Internet of Things) in Architecture", presented by Assoc. Prof. Arch. Nguyen Bao Tuan, Head of the Technical Department, Faculty of Architecture, and Deputy Director of the ATC Center, Van Lang University.

"Energy Demand Analysis in Buildings Based on Building Information Modeling (BIM)", presented by Dr. Ho Viet Long, Lecturer at the Tunnels and Metro Department, University of Transport.

"Application of Machine Learning in Building Energy Forecasting," presented by Dr. Truong Quoc Tri, Lecturer at the Data Science Department, Faculty of Mechanical - Electrical & Computer Engineering, Van Lang University.

Dr. Le Hung Tien's presentation showcased the potential of AI to revolutionize the construction industry by addressing environmental challenges. He introduced 8D BIM-Cognitive technology as a powerful tool for optimizing building energy efficiency and minimizing environmental impact.

Dr. Ho Viet Long's presentation underscored the pivotal role of BIM in achieving sustainable building design. By enabling the optimization of building energy performance through advanced simulation and analysis capabilities, BIM contributes significantly to reducing the carbon footprint of the built environment. Furthermore, BIM facilitates the creation of comprehensive datasets for machine learning models, enabling the development of data-driven energy standards and regulations.

Students attending the workshop expressed keen interest in exploring the potential of AI in tackling environmental challenges and climate change. Van Lang University aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to harness AI as a tool for building a sustainable future, as evidenced by the informative presentations delivered by our distinguished speakers.
