With increasing demands for professional data analysis and presentation, equipping staff with modern tools and in-depth knowledge is essential for improving work efficiency. To meet this need, the Center for Learning and Development, in collaboration with the Strategic Planning Department, organized the "Report Design Using Power BI" course. The course concluded on November 22, 2024, with notable positive results.
Power BI (Power Business Intelligence) is a software suite by Microsoft that enables users to connect, process, and analyze data from various sources, transforming raw data into actionable insights. With its ability to create highly visual, dynamic, and practical reports, Power BI optimizes workflows while enhancing the quality and effectiveness of work.

The “Report Design on Power BI Platform” course took place over three months, attracting 33 participants from 30 different units. Under the guidance of instructor Bui Duc Toan from the Professional Management Academy (PMA), the course followed three main phases: learning, practice, and creating applied products for individual units. These foundational steps have equipped faculty and staff with a solid understanding of how to utilize Power BI to optimize data analysis, visualization, and presentation, ultimately enhancing decision-making efficiency within their units.

During the learning phase, participants gained essential knowledge and skills through six intensive sessions conducted in both in-person and online formats. These sessions provided a solid foundation in Power BI, enabling learners to grasp fundamental concepts effectively. Following this was the capstone project phase, where faculty members applied their acquired knowledge and skills to create practical products that added value to their respective departments. Finally, these projects underwent evaluation and refinement with feedback and guidance from the Advisory Panel. At the conclusion of the course, six exemplary projects were selected based on three criteria: content quality, practical applicability, and scalability for other departments or the university as a whole. These standout projects were proudly showcased during the closing ceremony.

During the course's closing ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu, President of Van Lang University, commended the faculty and staff for their efforts in applying the knowledge gained to practical work, as evidenced by the completion of 28 reporting projects. She stated: “Our next goal is to increase the number of staff proficient in Power BI, ensuring that each unit has at least two faculty or staff members skilled in using this tool to provide support when needed. Additionally, we should explore other data platforms beyond Power BI to assess their efficiency and convenience in connecting, managing, and presenting information such as data, dashboards, charts, and reports. Furthermore, it is essential to continue improving the reporting system by collaborating with departments to identify specific data and reporting needs.”

The results achieved from the course demonstrate that the faculty members have gradually transformed theoretical knowledge into practical applications, creating valuable products that effectively address specific issues within their departments. At the same time, the quality of these products reaffirms the university's commitment to advancing digital transformation and enhancing human resource capabilities to meet the demands of the modern era.
