VLU’s lecturers participated in the training session on "Intellectual Property"

To meet the goal of developing University’s scientific research as well as complying with the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Training in implementing Intellectual Property activities according to Decree 109/2022/NĐ-CP, the Department of Research Development collaborated with the VLG Training and Development Center to organize the training session on "Intellectual Property" for all VLU staff.

During their work and teaching, each lecturer creates intellectual property that are literary and scientific works such as textbooks, course materials, lectures, musical works, works of art, applied art, architectural works, and so on. In accordance with the complexities surrounding the protection of intellectual properties, many individuals lack knowledge regarding the proper procedures for registering and safeguarding their intellectual assets. Understanding the importance of this issue, Van Lang University decided to organize a series of training sessions on  "Knowledge about intellectual property activities" with 4 different topics.

On the afternoon of December 15, 2023, the VLG Training & Development Center in collaboration with the VLU Department of Research Development launched the first class on "Overview of Intellectual Property and Industrial Property Information". Lecturers can attend the class in person at the university or join online via the MS TEAMS platform.

Under the guidance of expert Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, Director of the Industrial Property Information Center, the Intellectual Property Department, the lecturers gained an overview of intellectual property, its definition, identification methods, and how to protect and prevent infringements.

Expert Nguyen Thi Thu Hien provided valuable information such as using industrial property information for research, development, production, and business; practicing identification of intellectual property at the university level, contributing to the knowledge foundation on Intellectual Property rights for VLU’s lecturers. The training session allowed lecturers to enhance their knowledge and clarified any questions about the intellectual property rights registration process.

On the second training session on December 22, 2023, expert Nguyen Quang Tuan, Director of the Industrial Design Appraisal Center, National Office of Intellectual Property, introduced the lecturers to industrial design, outlining the process of formal assessment and content evaluation, the timeframe for application processing, and the conditions for obtaining protection certificates.

Industrial design refers to the external appearance of a product or part of a complex product that can circulate independently, and expressed through shape, lines, colors, or their combination. Industrial designs are protected if they fully meet the requirements of novelty, creativity, and industrial applicability.

Expert Nguyen Quang Tuan shared about the procedures for registering and searching for industrial designs.

Organizing the "Knowledge about Intellectual Property Activities" training series, Asocc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Kim Oanh, Head of the VLU Department of Research, aimed to equip lecturers with valuable knowledge to both create community-contributing works and safeguard their intellectual property rights.

The series of training sessions on "Knowledge about Intellectual Property Activities" was organized by the VLG Training and Development Center in collaboration with the VLU Department of Research Development. 

Expert Nguyen Quang Tuan guided the lecturers through the procedures and processes for handling industrial design registration applications, including searching for existing designs in free databases from both Vietnam and abroad to prevent duplication. He underscored the importance of a comprehensive assessment during the industrial design protection registration process, highlighting specific requirements regarding application content and protection conditions.

The lecturers showed a special desire to deeply understand intellectual property rights protection.

During discussions with the expert, VLU lecturers actively debated and consulted on topics regarding intellectual property rights protection for industrial designs, while also staying updated on crucial aspects of registering their creative product designs and safeguarding their rights.
