On April 10, 2025, the Faculty of Commerce – Van Lang University organized the seminar “INSIDE (SH)OUT – Exploring Emotional Intelligence” to offer students practical insights into emotional intelligence (EI), aiming to enhance their social skills and support future workplace applications.

The event welcomed three guest speakers: Mr. Dang Khanh An- Co-founder of Touching Soul Center, Clinical Psychologist at University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Denny Nguyen– Co-founder and Marketing Manager of Learning Plus, Emotional Intelligence Coach; and Mr. Tin Ly – Head of Branding and Community at Ninety Eight, former Brand Manager of OMO Matic at Unilever Vietnam.

Mr. Dang Khanh An introduced the definition of emotions from psychological and physiological perspectives. Accordingly, emotions are simply understood as short-term natural responses, expressed through facial expressions and body behavior. Each individual may go through three typical stages in the process of emotional control, abbreviated as 3N (Nin – Nen – No, meaning Suppress – Repress – Explode). According to the speaker, identifying and mastering the 3N not only helps us manage behavior and improve communication but also makes it easier to build sustainable relationships.

Mr. Denny Nguyen analyzed how to face emotional wounds. The speaker likened emotions to an iceberg – what we see is just the tip. Instead of “healing” by shopping or hanging out, he suggested that the key is to recognize the true emotion and write it down. This is the first step in addressing the problem. Then, expressing emotions through words or behavior will help release emotions in a healthy way. Mr. Denny Nguyen emphasized that being honest with your feelings and addressing the root cause is the key factor.

The final part of the seminar was the topic “Emotions in the workplace: Xa hay Xoa - Release or Relax” led by Mr. Tin Ly. From personal experience, he guided students on how to manage emotions in corporate environments, especially when collaborating with unsympathetic supervisors. The speaker reminded young people that there is no need to try to control emotions, because the more we suppress them, the more likely they are to burst. Instead, acknowledge and embrace them as a natural part of yourself.

Mr. Tin Ly encouraged young people to acknowledge and embrace their emotions, instead of hiding or suppressing them.

Through the real-life sharing of the guest speakers, Van Lang students not only gained a clearer understanding of personal emotional management in the workplace but also learned how to listen to, recognize, and appreciate their own emotions.
