On March 15, 2025, the International Education Institute of Van Lang University hosted the course “Developing Diversity and Cultural Intelligence Skills”. This serves as a valuable opportunity for Van Lang University students to acquire essential communication skills and work effectively in multicultural environments.

The session was led by Mr. Raymond Wiranatakusuma, Director of SPECTRA Professional Education, a lecturer, consultant, and trainer with 20 years of experience in cross-cultural management across Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

In today's globalized world, possessing cultural diversity and intelligence skills is crucial for success in international workplaces, where cultures strongly intersect. The speaker guided VLU students through key concepts from Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions Theory and Global Clusters – two prominent theoretical frameworks that assist students in understanding cultural differences in multinational work environments.

Expert Raymond Wiranatakusuma introduces Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions Theory.

During the session on Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions Theory, expert Raymond Wiranatakusuma analyzed six key cultural dimensions, including power distance, individualism vs. collectivism, masculinity vs. femininity, uncertainty avoidance, long-term orientation vs. short-term orientation, and indulgence vs. restraint. These dimensions help students not only recognize cultural differences but also develop communication skills and collaboration skills in a global setting.

Additionally, the guest speaker provided practical solutions and real-life examples of etiquette in multicultural workplaces. Using statics and video illustrations, the expert helped participants easily grasp cultural principles and see how different cultures influence workplace behaviors. This knowledge allows students to communicate more flexibly and effectively in diverse professional environments.
