VLU Class-Zoom: Learning Business Simulation with VLU Tourism Students

"Tourism Business Simulation" is a signature course of the Faculty of Tourism at Van Lang University and is familiar to senior students of the faculty. Student groups undertake projects as real businesses in the Tourism, Hotel, and Restaurant sector, seeking investments from venture capital funds and angel investors (hypothetical), thereby gaining a wealth of valuable experience for various specific job roles in the future.

For the first time integrating this business simulation activity, Class 27 students from the Restaurant and Food Service Management, Hotel Management, and Tourism departments debuted 36 professional projects including restaurants, hotels, homestays, cafes, and tours. Each project was meticulously evaluated by a panel of experts in the tourism industry based on strict criteria for feasibility, creativity, and development potential.

Mr. Vo Duc Duy, lecturer from the Restaurant Department of the Faculty of Tourism, highly appreciates the uniqueness, attractiveness, and creativity of the students. Discussing the objective of the faculty in creating the course, he noted: "The course will provide students with knowledge, skills, and experience to start a business. Students must synthesize the knowledge they have learned over four years, and fully apply that knowledge to a final simulation project of their student life."

Experiencing this course, student groups had invaluable first-time experiences such as managing a project's finances, working professionally in teams, coordinating to achieve a common goal, interacting with the real business environment, and understanding the difficulties and challenges businesses face. With dedicated support from the lecturer and the Faculty of Tourism, students are able to grasp and complete their projects as best as possible.

The "Business Management Simulation" course is a precious opportunity for each student of the Faculty of Tourism to practice their knowledge, hone their soft skills, and explore their potential, serving as an important stepping stone before entering the real-world job market. It distinctly represents the unique training characteristics of the Faculty of Tourism, affirming the position of the faculty in particular and Van Lang University in general in educating dynamic, creative students ready to face the challenges of the era.
