As one of the key subjects in the Biotechnology program at Van Lang University, the High-tech agriculture subject offers students the opportunity to apply agricultural knowledge combined with modern technology to optimize production, protect the environment, and promote sustainable agriculture.
In this subject, students are introduced to and gain hands-on experience with modern cultivation models such as greenhouses, hydroponic systems, IoT applications for monitoring production, soilless cultivation techniques, and basic use of electrical devices and piping systems in smart agriculture.
A special feature of the subject is that students are able to design, assemble, and operate a hydroponic model inside a greenhouse — a miniature simulation of a high-tech agricultural process that ensures both technical precision and visual appeal. Students go through every step from design to final product in a systematic way, developing teamwork skills, creative thinking, and problem-solving abilities. These are core skills that the Biotechnology program at Van Lang University consistently aims to foster.
Sharing the value of the subject, Dr. Vu Thi Quyen, Head of the Biotechnology Department, Faculty of Applied Technology at Van Lang University, stated that students are not only equipped with specialized knowledge but also develop analytical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. When assigned to design a high-tech agricultural model like a hydroponic system, students must flexibly apply their knowledge to implement a standardized module as guided by the instructor. This process helps shape system thinking, strengthens practical skills, and enhances effective collaboration. At the same time, the subject provides students with a fresh and deeper perspective on modern agriculture — a field constantly evolving under the influence of science and technology.
Le Thi Thuy An, a student from the 28th Class of the Biotechnology program, shared: "Before, I thought agriculture was just traditional farming and animal husbandry. But through the High-Tech Agriculture subject, I gained a better understanding of how modern and precise agricultural production can be. Experiencing the hydroponic system in the greenhouse firsthand helped me realize the true potential of this technology."
Amidst the challenges of climate change, environmental pollution, and increasing demand for safe food, high-tech agriculture will play a crucial role in ensuring food security and providing green – clean – high-quality food that is environmentally friendly. With the knowledge and skills acquired from this subject, Biotechnology students are expected to become key contributors to innovation in the agricultural field.
