On March 21, 2025, the Faculty of Architecture, Van Lang University established the Specialized English Club (VLU ArchSpeak) to encourage students to improve their specialized English, foster professional competence, practice soft skills and enhance competitiveness in the global labor market.
"Arch" in the club's name is not simply an abbreviation for "Architecture" but also a specialized term, evoking the image of unique architectural works and factors related to construction - space. "Speak" is both communication and conversation; and also refers to discussion and sharing of knowledge in the field of Architecture.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Architect Do Phu Hung, Head of the Faculty of Architecture, affirmed the role of English in expanding knowledge and connecting with the world. “Language is closely linked to the development of civilization. Knowing another language is living another life. I believe that the club will bring an open and comfortable academic space, helping students to progress in their studies.”, Dr. Architect Do Phu Hung shared.
According to Master of Architecture Nguyen Le Thao Nguyen (Lecturer of the Faculty of Architecture, Head of the VLU ArchSpeak Club), presenting ideas in English in the field of Architecture is not simple. “Communication is difficult. Arguing and debating in English is even more challenging because it requires specialized vocabulary, logical thinking and coherent expression. The establishment of the club creates conditions for Van Lang Architecture students to overcome language barriers, thereby becoming more confident when studying and working in an international environment.”, Master. Architect. Nguyen Le Thao Nguyen said.
The VLU ArchSpeak Club promises to become a forum for Van Lang Architecture students to freely improve their specialized English, develop themselves comprehensively to be more confident and steady when participating in academic exchange activities, international specialized conferences/seminars.
