As part of the international student exchange activities held from September 8 to 12, 2024, a delegation of students and lecturers from Taylor’s University (Malaysia) visited and participated in a meaningful learning experience with students from the Faculty of Law at Van Lang University.
Ranked among the Top 50 private Universities worldwide, Taylor’s University is one of the highly regarded universities by employers for its quality Law education. Van Lang University and Taylor’s University organized an exchange event featuring a variety of experiences: a tour of the university's main campus, discussions on potential research topics, and visits to the People's Court of Vietnam for educational purposes.
The exchange program aimed to strengthen the cooperation between Vietnam and Malaysia. It provided an opportunity for Taylor's University to send volunteer law students to Van Lang University to explore the culture and share knowledge. The event was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Anh Thuy, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Dr. Nguyen Tat Thanh, Head of the Criminal Law Department. Besides, the program proudly welcomed two representatives from the delegation: Dr. Ambikai S Thuraisingam, Director of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) program and Dr. Tamara Joan Duraisingam, Senior Lecturer of Taylor’s University.
In his speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Anh Thuy, Dean of Faculty of Law introduced the vision and mission of the Faculty of Law at Van Lang University. He expressed his confidence that the close collaboration between universities, businesses, and students is essential to creating new values. “With our experienced faculty and state of the art facilities, we are committed to providing a professional and effective learning environment for students, offering opportunities to participate in practical activities, scientific research, and entrepreneurship,” shared Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Anh Thuy, Dean of Faculty of Law.
Representing Taylor’s University, Dr. Ambikai S Thuraisingam, Director of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) program, supported the cooperation between nations to build a solid educational foundation. She emphasized, “At Taylor’s, students have the opportunity to engage in diverse academic programs, from bachelor’s to doctoral degree, alongside many research activities. We look forward to collaborating with Van Lang University to create shared learning and research opportunities, particularly in student exchanges and postgraduate education between the two countries."
After a lively discussion on practical legal issues, the student delegation moved on to visit courtrooms at the People’s Court of Vietnam. There, they listened to insights from court officials about Vietnam’s legal system, learning about the operation processes and comparing them with those in their home country. This experience not only enhanced their knowledge of existing law but also expanded their understanding of the working environment directly related to their field of study.
The exchange between the students of the two universities concluded with lasting impressions. Through this valuable experience, Van Lang University students had the opportunity to broaden their professional knowledge and engage in cultural exchanges with international peers. The university hopes that such collaborations with top global institutions will provide solid opportunities for students to better apply theoretical knowledge to practical experiences as they move forward in their careers.
