In celebration of the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Women's Union (October 20, 1930 - October 20, 2024) and the 14th anniversary of Vietnamese Women’s Day (October 20, 2010 - October 20, 2024), 42 teams from 34 units of Van Lang University first joined the "Cake Decorating” Contest on the afternoon of October 19, 2024, hosting by the Van Lang University Trade Union, in collaboration with Nhat Huong Bakery Vocational Training Center.
The judges included Ms. Tran Thi Thu Thuy, M.A., Chairwoman of the Trade Union and Head of the Organizing Committee; Ms. Sam Thi Van, Head of the Technical Department at Nhat Huong Bakery Vocational Training Center; and Chef Le Cong Yen, Lecturer from the Faculty of Tourism at Van Lang University.

In the opening at the competition, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Thuy, M.A., stated: “Each year, the Executive Committee of the Trade Union strives to create new opportunities for members to engage, and this year, we are hosting the cake decorating contest. This is also a skill that can be showcased and applied in our daily lives.”
Ms. Trat Thanh Thao - Head of the Training Department at Nhat Huong Bakery Training Center, emphasized the purpose of such activities, especially in universities offering programs in tourism and culinary arts. This is to inspire a passion for baking and encourage individuals with similar interests to pursue careers in the field.

Before the 126 contestants entered the official competition, Ms. Sam Thi Van, representing the Nhat Huong Bakery Vocational Training Center, provided instructions on frosting techniques, flower and shell piping, and other basic cake decorating methods. This guidance ensured that even participants with no prior experience in cake decorating could grasp essential foundational knowledge and apply it effectively under expert supervision.



In a lively and cheerful atmosphere, 42 teams crafted 42 cakes that were not only visually impressive but also carried deep meaning, reflecting the unique identity of each unit. Alongside demonstrating practical skills, the teams showcased their persuasive presentation abilities, contributing significantly to the success of the competition. Judge Ms. Sam Thi Van praised the teams' techniques, execution, and the quality of their creations. She noted that despite many participants lacking prior experience in baking, they showed great effort and dedication, producing their best possible results.



The organizing committee awarded a total of 11 prizes, including one First Prize, two Second Prizes, three Third Prizes, and five Consolation Prizes. Among them, the cake created by Team 09 from the Faculty of Arts, Theater, and Cinema, featuring a rose motif and messages of love directed towards half of the world, was awarded the First Prize.

The "Cake Decorating" contest was a vibrant and meaningful part of Van Lang University’s celebration of Vietnamese Women’s Day in 2024. Beyond its symbolic significance, the event offered a platform for union members to demonstrate their creativity, skill, and teamwork. It enriched the university’s cultural activities and enhanced the spiritual well-being of its staff, lecturers, and employees.
