Van Lang University students won First Prize in Summer Workshop 2023

The team led by Truong Dang Dan Thu - Course 26 student majoring in Interior Design at Van Lang University, with confidence and innovative ideas that embraced traditional national values, successfully won two awards, which are the Most Popular Work and the First Prize in the Indoor Public Art category of Summer Workshop 2023 with the theme "Children's Public Construction Artwork".

The Summer Workshop, organized by Nhavui XS Studio from August 28 - September 16, 2023 is a playground for the students majoring in design at Ho Chi Minh City universities. In 2023, with the theme "Children's Public Construction Artwork", with the goal of conveying knowledge about designing public artworks, renovating and diversifying the functional space of children's houses. There were two categories proposed in this workshop: Outdoor Public Art (External artworks in the middle of the lobby between construction clusters) and Indoor Public Art (Interior decorative reliefs in the two entrance halls of the theatre auditorium).

Each participant collaborated with experts from Nhavui XS Studio and received guidance and enthusiastic support from mentors and companions. During this challenge, Truong Dang Dan Thu, a Course 26 student majoring in Interior Design, had the opportunity to cooperate with mentor MSc. Architect. Le Tuan Nam, Ms. Nguyen Hong Truc Mai, and Mr. Nguyen Nhat Duy Anh. In particular, Ms. Truc Mai is also a Course 25 student majoring in architecture at Van Lang University.

After 2 weeks of competition, Dan Thu group's work "Parallel Universe", inspired by folk fairy tales and adult childhood memories in the modern era, impressed the judging panel and secured First Prize in the Indoor Public Art category. The artwork is highly appreciated for its practicality and close connection to Vietnamese cultural life, combining two layers of meaning including natural elements interwoven with folk paintings, expressing pride and determination to maintain and promote the nation's patriotic and national defense tradition.

Along with the work "Parallel Universe", the group also presented the work "Sailing The Cyclone", portraying the heroic picture of sailing through storms, demonstrating the spirit of overcoming challenges and dexterity to control the boat to safely reach the shore in dangerous situations. Receiving overwhelming support, the work "Sailing The Cyclone" won the Most Popular Work Award.

Truong Dang Dan Thu shared: “I am overjoyed to win first prize in this event. I feel fortunate to have the encouragement and support from my teachers and friends to apply for the exam, as well as to meet my colleagues and team members who supported me with their best efforts. Collaborating together and achieving this award is something we did not anticipate. I am thankful to the competition for giving us the motivation to work harder in our studies, continuing to pursue our dream of becoming professional designers."
