Van Lang University students shine on Ho Chi Minh City music stages

For many years, lecturers and students from the Faculty of Music, Theater and Film at Van Lang University (VLU) have made their mark by winning numerous awards in major art competitions. These achievements not only build each student’s personal brand but also reflect the Faculty’s pride in high-quality training and vibrant artistic community.

Vocal Performance students at Van Lang University make a strong impression at two contests of “Student - Sing - Shine” in Ho Chi Minh City.

Recently, Trinh Thi Gia Han, a Class 29 student from the Vocal Performance program, has just won the Encouragement Prize for her performance “Det tam gai” (Weavin' Nettle) at the “Student - Sing - Shine” Gala 2025 - Theme: "Gam Hoa" (Floral Brocade), organized by the Vietnam Union of Students of Ho Chi Minh City in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Student Cultural House.

This year’s competition attracted more than 200 performances from contestants across the city’s universities. Each performance carried its own identity, showcasing the students’ talent, dedication, creativity, and passionate love for music. Under the theme ”Gam Hoa” (Floral Brocade), participants delivered meaningful messages through diverse formats, including solo, duet, trio, choir, singing-dance acts, solo dance, and band performances.

Additionally, Gia Han’s performance “Det tam gai” (Weavin’ Nettle) earned her the Third Prize at the “Student - Sing - Shine” 2025 Gala organized by Ho Chi Minh City University of Banking. This success not only demonstrates her talent and dedication but also stands as evidence of Van Lang University’s professional training quality, the devotion of lecturers, and the creative, humanistic learning environment the University strives to cultivate.

Also in this competition, four talented Class 29 students majoring in Vocal Performance at Van Lang University received Encouragement Prizes:

  • Le Tien Dat with “Ngay Chua Giong Bao” (Before the Storm); 
  • Nguyen Thanh Cong with “Co Gai va Cay Duong Cam” (A Girl and the Piano);
  • Bui Ngoc Tuan Khang with “Chiec Khan Pieu” (The Pieu Scarf);
  • Nguyen Thi Thao Nhan with “Xa Khoi” (Far Offshore).

“I feel incredibly lucky, grateful, and happy to always receive wholehearted support and opportunities from the Faculty and the University. The lecturers not only are my inspiration and encouragement but also provide us with material support, allowing my peers and me to fully devote ourselves to music,” shared Gia Han, expressing her gratitude to the University for always accompanying her on her artistic journey.

To deliver outstanding performances on stage, the students practiced seriously with their instructors, received support in facilities from the University, and encouragement from the Faculty.

Representing Van Lang University’s award-winning students, Bui Ngoc Tuan Khang expressed gratitude to Ms. Khanh Hoa, who devotedly accompanied them throughout the rehearsal process. She patiently guided every small detail in each song, helping the students refine their performances and stand confidently on the stage.

VLU Faculty of Music, Theater and Film collaborates with major partners such as monoX, Universal Music Vietnam, along with many professional artists and producers. These partnerships give students the opportunity to gain authentic experience, refine their performance skills, and develop a professional artistic mindset.

Van Lang University, in collaboration with monoX and Universal Music Vietnam, hosted the talk show “Envisioning Your Sound: Unleashing your inner tone” to provide students with valuable insights into the songwriting process and effective communication strategy building.
