On November 28, 2023, Van Lang University organized a workshop titled "Introduction to Traditional Korean Musical Instruments," which attracted a large number of students. The workshop was held in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music and the Deobureo Sup Art Troupe, with the goal of providing opportunities for students to explore and understanding various cultures around the world.

The Deobureo Sup Art Troupe combined traditional musical instruments with modern K-Pop musical elements, delivering a unique performance.

Currently in South Korea, the Deobureo Sup Art Troupe is the only artistic troupe specializing in string instruments and traditional wind instruments made from natural materials. Belonging to the Chungbuk Art Association, Deobureo Sup embodies youthful vigor, not only showcasing traditional Korean music but also embracing contemporary music, connecting generations, and spreading the beauty of the nation's traditional music.

Musicians introduced VLU students to familiar Korean cultural musical instruments.

Alongside performances deeply rooted in Korean culture by Deobureo Sup artists, the workshop provided an opportunity for VLU students to engage in discussions with artists and experts, gaining further insights into traditional Korean musical instruments such as Haegeum, Ajaeng, Geomungo, Piri, Daegeum, and percussion instruments including Buk, Janggu, Kkwaenggwari, and others.

Conductor Lee Hee Bok led the orchestra, creating moments of musical ecstasy.

The melodious and profound tunes of the court music 'Sangryeongsan,' the ensemble 'Sanjo,' the ensemble 'Phannoreum,' and the ensemble 'Forest and People' opened up the characteristic space of traditional Korean music with a unique folk influence, reflecting the spiritual life of the Korean people in ancient times.

The blend of traditional Vietnamese and Korean instruments in the ensemble fostered cultural exchange, creating an opportunity for connection between the two countries.

Notably, the program also featured musicians from the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, participating in a joint performance with the Deobureo Sup Art Troupe in a medley of Vietnamese and Korean folk songs. The ensemble between traditional Vietnamese and Korean musical instruments provided a space for cultural and artistic exchange between the two countries, fostering connection.

In addition to knowledge about traditional Korean musical instruments, Deobureo Sup demonstrated that music has the ability to connect countries, different musical genres, and various eras. Through the program, it is hoped that Van Lang University students will develop an appreciation for the beautiful values of traditional culture, actively learn the artistic essence of their own country, and find ways to preserve and promote the culture of their homeland, sharing it with friends around the world.
