In recent years, wood has become a popular choice in the U.S. and Europe as a sustainable building material. On October 11, 2024, the Faculty of Construction at Van Lang University collaborated with Mitek Vietnam to host an in-depth seminar titled “Wooden house structures – A new trend in the U.S market.” With years of expertise, the speakers provided valuable insights into the benefits of wooden house systems and the advanced technologies used to construct them.
Wooden house systems are gaining more attention today as they not only reduce reliance on traditional materials like concrete and steel but also support green building trends. At the seminar, representatives from Mitek Vietnam shared fresh perspectives on constructing wooden houses. They introduced prefabricated wooden frames, which are highly accurate, lightweight, and easy to assemble. These structures offer excellent load-bearing capacity, significantly reduce foundation pressure, and save both construction time and costs.

Experts highlighted key differences between traditional houses and wooden houses, including materials, construction processes, costs, and timelines.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Quang Tuong, Head of the Department of Construction Economics and Management, Faculty of Civil Engineering, emphasized Van Lang University’s sustainable development goals: “Van Lang University is committed to innovation and creativity in education and research. In Construction training, aside from traditional houses, we are exploring modular designs with materials like wood, embracing digital transformation and green initiatives to foster fresh and creative approaches.”

The students were enthusiastic, actively absorbed new knowledge and shared their thoughts on the industry’s future.

This seminar was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about innovative technologies and ideas in the Civil Engineering industry, aligning with Van Lang University’s comprehensive and sustainable development goals. The University continues to encourage and support its students to explore, create, and stay updated with global trends in every field.
