On the afternoon of December 16th 2025, Faculty of Information Technology - Van Lang University organized public talk titled “Recent advances in AI for biomedicine”, featuring a presentation by Prof. Tran The Truyen – Head of AI in Health and Science, Applied Artificial Intelligence Initiative, Deakin University (Australia). This event provided students with valuable opportunities to gain in-depth insights into emerging trends in the application of artificial intelligence in the healthcare sector.

The program took place in a context where artificial intelligence (AI) has become a key driver of innovation, particularly in the field of biomedicine. With the mission of developing high-quality human resources for the digital era, Faculty of Information Technology - Van Lang University consistently prioritizes creating opportunities for students to engage with the latest technological trends. Through enhanced dialogue with experts, students not only cultivate creative thinking but also build a solid foundation for future career orientation.
As a pioneer in developing artificial intelligence capable of reasoning like a scientist and supporting healthcare like a physician, Prof. Tran The Truyen – Head of AI in Health and Science, Deakin University (Australia) met and shared with Van Lang University students the latest advances in AI in the field of biomedicine. The session focused on the role of AI in reshaping biomedical research, accelerating drug discovery, innovating medical imaging diagnostics, enhancing clinical practice, and progressing toward general biomedical AI.

With the extensive experiences in investment, development, and promoting human–AI collaboration in healthcare, Prof. Tran The Truyen offered Van Lang University students a comprehensive overview of the emergence of general biomedical AI, a technology capable of processing and reasoning across multiple data modalities. Practical applications of generative AI, such as COVID-19 outbreak forecasting in Ho Chi Minh City, Cerebral palsy diagnosis and Medical report generation served as compelling evidence of a significant turning point in how AI is developed and deployed.
As the leader of three major programs: AI Future, AI4Science, and AI Health, Prof. Tran The Truyen emphasized to Van Lang University students that in the present and near future, AI primarily replaces specific tasks or functions rather than human beings as a whole. Humans will continue to play a central role in making final decisions, especially in critical fields such as healthcare and education.

The public talk “Recent advances in AI for biomedicine” further demonstrated the orientation of Faculty of Information Technology - Van Lang University in narrowing the gap between academic learning and real-world practice. Through opportunities to engage with cutting-edge knowledge shared by pioneering experts, students were inspired to unlock their potential and confidently prepare to lead the rapidly evolving wave of artificial intelligence.
