To expand the academic environment and create professional exchange opportunities for students, on January 16, 2026, the Faculty of Music, Theatre, and Film organized a workshop for meeting and sharing with Visiting Scholar, Dr. Nguyen Le Tuyen - a Vietnamese-Australian composer, researcher, and educator, who is currently a visiting lecturer at the Australian National University.
During the session, Visiting Scholar Dr. Nguyen Le Tuyen shared his journey of studying, teaching, and composing in a multicultural environment, while also outlining an overview of musical life in Australia. According to him, music plays an important role in the spiritual life of Australian society and is systematically invested in within the education system, with iconic cultural institutions such as the Sydney Opera House. Drawing from his personal experiences, he encouraged students to view music as a serious career path that requires passion, perseverance, and a long-term vision.

One of the highlights that attracted strong interest from students was the discussion on music education programs in Australia for international students. Visiting Scholar Dr. Nguyen Le Tuyen shared insights into academic pathways from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, training models at conservatories and universities, as well as career orientations after graduation. According to him, music students in Australia have various career opportunities in fields such as professional performance, teaching, research, media, recording, music production, and arts management.

A key highlight of the program was the performance of Visiting Scholar, Dr. Nguyen Le Tuyen’s compositions by piano students, followed by direct feedback from the composer himself. This activity allowed students to approach music from a deeper intellectual perspective, clarifying the relationship between technique and emotion in performance. Within the workshop, piano lecturer M.A. Thai Ngoc Thuy Trang performed and premiered the piece “Tears of the Heart” by Dr. Nguyen Le Tuyen, leaving a strong impression with its emotional depth and humanistic value.

The program not only provided Van Lang University students with the opportunity to directly engage with an international composer and scholar, but also contributed to broadening perspectives on music in the context of globalization and cultural exchange. Through this, the workshop affirmed the role of music as a cultural bridge between Vietnam and Australia, while inspiring students to pursue artistic paths with seriousness and perseverance.
