From September 3 to 7, 2025, in harmony with the vibrant atmosphere of a new academic year, Van Lang University (VLU) organized a series of student orientation sessions for all students. This annual initiative aims to strengthen the connection between students and the university, providing essential guidance on academic orientation, personal development, and life skills, thereby fostering excitement and motivation for the upcoming academic journey.
The Student Orientation Week, held annually, marks the beginning of the academic year with engaging and meaningful activities. For the freshmen of Class 31, the first session served as an important orientation, offering detailed instructions on academic procedures and campus life at Van Lang University.

As newcomers, Course 31 has to face the typical challenges of adapting to a new academic environment, ranging from course registration and timetable management to personal study planning, etc. To support a smooth transition, faculty members from the Department of Academic Affairs provided detailed guidance on academic regulations, learning outcomes, study roadmaps, administrative procedures, and the use of online learning platforms.
Freshmen were introduced to fundamental concepts such as academic planning, course registration, credit systems, prerequisite requirements, etc. With eagerness and curiosity, many actively engaged with lecturers, raising questions and discussing matters related to their new learning environment.

As a symbolic rite of passage, the session concluded with the freshmen learning the VLU traditional song, “Van Lang Dai Hoc Duong”, marking the beginning of their academic journey.
Seminar on Campus Security in the 4.0 Era
A highlight for Class 31 students was the seminar on Campus Security in the 4.0 Era, presented by Senior Lieutenant Colonel Le Hoang Viet Lam. He cautioned students about increasingly sophisticated online scams, ranging from fraudulent banking messages and fake job offers to the misuse of AI for identity theft.
The session equipped students with essential knowledge about digital safety and personal data protection, promoting awareness and self-defense skills in online academic and social activities.
Thematic seminars for students of Classes 28, 29, and 30
In addition to freshmen activities, VLU implemented thematic sessions for students of Classes 28, 29, and 30, consisting of three online modules and one in-person seminar.
Topic 1: “Physical and mental health skills for the digital age” by Mr. Tran Dinh, Physiotherapist, Vietnam National Football Team and Clinical Nutrition Consultant, National Institute of Nutrition. The seminar introduced practical methods such as the 20-20-20 Rule for eyes, the 4-2-6 Breathing Technique, and simple desk exercises to maintain balance in study and life. Special emphasis was placed on stroke awareness and first aid, underscoring the “golden window” of 3-5 minutes to save lives and reduce complications.
Topic 2: “VLU students are proactive and confident in harnessing AI for learning and research” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thoi Trung, Director of the Institute for Computational Science and Artificial Intelligence, Van Lang University. He analyzed how AI can support research, from literature search and information synthesis to idea generation, while cautioning against overdependence, which may erode essential skills. He emphasized: “AI can serve as a launchpad for personal development, but true distinction still lies in human thinking and skills.”
Topic 3: “The art of social etiquette: Toward the ideal VLU student model”, which shared inspiring stories on communication and etiquette, fostering the image of VLU students as friendly, confident, and professional.
Topic 4: “Enhancing awareness of online fraud prevention” by Lieutenant Colonel Bui Thai Duc, Senior Officer, PV01 at the Ho Chi Minh City Public Security Department. Drawing from real cases, he illustrated sophisticated scams such as impersonation of authorities, social media account hijacking, and even “virtual kidnappings”. He introduced the “3 Don’ts - 3 Dos” principle for self-protection: Don’t trust hastily - Don’t act hastily - Don’t disclose; Do verify - Do stay alert - Do secure.
The Student Orientation 2025 – 2026 Programs concluded with valuable knowledge and practical skills for all students. VLU hopes that these sessions will serve as essential preparation, empowering the students to enter the new academic year with confidence, resilience, and enthusiasm.
