Last week, the student team majoring in Biotechnology at Van Lang University (VLU) achieved the Excellent Team prize and three individual third prizes overall at the 4th National Student Biology Olympic (organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University).
Under the guidance of Dr. Vu Thi Quyen (Head of the Department of Biotechnology) and Dr. Le Thanh Dien (lecturer of the Faculty of Applied Technology, VLU), the team from VLU included 5 brilliant members, Nguyen Ngoc Hung Thinh, Nguyen Ngoc Thao My, Nguyen Van Thien, Ma Thi Anh Thu, and Huynh Nguyen Thien Nga, bringing proud achievements for themselves and the University:
The Vietnam Student Biology Olympic is an academic contest that attracts students interested in biology nationwide. There are 100 multiple-choice questions in cell biology, plant and animal biology, genetics and evolution, ecology, and ethology; and a practical exam to solve high-level applied exercises.
Sharing her thoughts about the contest, Nguyen Ngoc Thao My said: “Personally, I find the practical exam quite easy because most of it is the knowledge that had been practiced many times at school; but, on the other hand, the theory test was really difficult even though our team had previously reviewed with lecturers in the Faculty on all topics. After the competition, what we cherished the most was the knowledge we gained and the opportunity to network with students from other universities.”
Besides learning specialized knowledge from Biotechnology students across the country, the valuable takeaway for VLU students was the opportunity for practical experience. The team had an opportunity to visit on-site at the Ajinomoto factory, learning about fermentation, production, and wastewater treatment processes.
Dr. Vu Thi Quyen shared about the journey to the 4th Vietnam Student Biology Olympic: “The success of the VLU team is the result of careful knowledge preparation, the team's solidarity and above all, the endless passion for Biology that motivated them. This year's exam was very difficult and we had to compete with major public universities across the country. Thank you for your perseverance in competing.”
Congratulations to the lecturers and students majoring in Biotechnology. We wish the students success in obtaining new milestones, inspiring the spirit for learning and scientific research in the VLU community.
