Van Lang University signs Agreement to launch the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Program in 100% Collaboration with University of Newcastle, Australia

On the morning of October 22nd 2024, Van Lang University officially became the only university in Vietnam to offer the Bachelor’s degree program in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in partnership with University of Newcastle, Australia. The signing ceremony marked a significant milestone, paving the way for extensive collaboration between two parties in various fields and providing Van Lang University students with exclusive opportunities to access internationally accredited education programs.

Ms. Jen Bahen emphasized the significance of this collaboration between two universities.

Following the success in Finance and International Business field as a strategic partner, Van Lang University continues to expand its collaboration with UON through the Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Honours) program. Van Lang  university places great importance on this partnership, as Ms. Jen Bahen, Counsellor for Education and Research at Australian Embassy in Vietnam, highlighted: “The signing of this cooperation agreement for the program holds special significance. Education is not only one of the 6 pillars of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Australia, but also a key factor supporting the other 5 pillars. Particularly, with both countries committed to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, the training of high-quality human resources in electrical and electronic engineering is crucial. Furthermore, the two nations recently signed an action plan, one of whose commitments is to explore educational partnerships in new and distinctive fields. The launch of this international program is a clear proof to the deep collaboration between the two countries, expanding beyond business and information technology into other key areas, contributing to the sustainable development of both nations.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu eagerly shared her thoughts on this signing ceremony.

This demonstrates that Van Lang University is always attentive and innovative in the direction of developing educational cooperation between the government and the world. Moreover, the university is committed to fulfill its promise to students by creating a dynamic international educational environment, as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu, President of Van Lang University affirmed benefits that the partnership program brings to Van Lang University students: “The partnership in the Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Honours) program provides a unique opportunity for Vietnamese students: to graduate with an internationally prestigious degree from one of the Top 200 universities in the world, right here at Van Lang University. I’m looking forward to celebrating the graduation ceremony of the first class of students from this program after four years of study.”

Prof. Kent Anderson has high expectations for the long-term collaborative relationship with Van Lang University.

Prof. Kent Anderson, Deputy-Vice Chancellor, Global at University of Newcastle, expressed: “For us, Van Lang University is one of our 5 comprehensive strategic partners. The decision to sign the collaboration agreement for the Electrical and Electronic Engineering program was not made hastily; we have been researching this partnership for a couple of times. I believe this collaboration will be successful. Both countries need to partner more in STEM fields. Many businesses from both nations already collaborate in business and information technology, but there is a need for more connections in the sciences. Especially, Vietnam has an incredible history in education and training in scientific fields.”

Students Nguyen Ngoc Quyen, Nguyen Ngoc Yen Nhi and Hoang Yen have had a joyful learning experience at the International Education Institute (IEI), Van Lang University.

At the signing ceremony, students enrolled in the 100% international program with University of Newcastle in Finance and International Business major eagerly shared their exciting learning experiences at the International Education Institute (IEI). Not only do they have access to in-depth knowledge based on international standards, but they are also provided with opportunities to participate in valuable extra-curricular activities, such as volunteering for international organizations. Through these experiences, they have expanded their network and gained access to numerous attractive job opportunities.

The first class of students for the Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics (Honours) program is expected to begin recruitment in 2025. Both Van Lang University and University of Newcastle (Australia) look forward to the pioneering students from Van Lang University who will study and graduate from the international degree programs offered in collaboration between the two parties.
