On June 6, 2025, the Faculty of Nursing, in collaboration with the Medical Skills Training Center of Van Lang University, hosted a seminar titled “Equipping Health Sciences Students for International-Standard Work Environments”. The event featured guest speaker Ms. Nguyen Pham Hoang Lan, Senior Quality Management Advisor of Phuong Chau Healthcare Group.

Speaking on the importance of quality assurance in healthcare services, Dr. Ly Thi Phuong Hoa, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, emphasized that hospital quality assurance in Vietnam has gained increasing attention in recent years. It is now considered a “compass” to assert a hospital’s position and brand identity within the community. This seminar served as an opportunity for students in the Health Sciences field, especially Nursing students, to gain a deeper understanding of the journey toward hospital quality development aligned with international standards.

As a Quality Improvement Engineer at Main Line Health System, one of the largest healthcare systems in Pennsylvania, USA, and concurrently Senior Quality Management Advisor of Phuong Chau Healthcare Group, Ms. Nguyen Pham Hoang Lan shared her journey accompanying Phuong Chau Healthcare since 2019. Through collective effort, the team has achieved significant milestones, becoming one of only 10 healthcare systems globally and the first in Southeast Asia to receive the JCI Enterprise Certificate, the highest level of accreditation for hospital quality systems.

According to Ms. Nguyen Pham Hoang Lan, a common limitation among certain Vietnamese healthcare institutions is the overemphasis on clinical treatment, often at the expense of accompanying healthcare services, resulting in compromised service quality. Nonetheless, an increasing number of hospitals have started prioritizing quality management. Topics such as Lean Six Sigma (focused on hospital operations and quality management for healthcare leaders) are also garnering more attention, indicating promising career directions for Health Sciences students with relevant expertise.

The seminar “Equipping Health Sciences Students for International-Standard Work Environments” effectively addressed some students’ concerns regarding study orientation and future career development in globally competitive healthcare environments. It also reflects the Faculty of Nursing and Van Lang University’s broader efforts to integrate education with practical experience, facilitating students' holistic development and keeping up with international integration in modern healthcare.
