Van Lang University Lecturers Enhance Data Analysis Competence through the “Excel Mastery” Course

On June 20 and 24, 2025, the VLG Training and Development Center at Van Lang University hosted the course “Excel Mastery: Strong Data Foundation - Optimized Reporting,” attracting many lecturers from various faculties. The program aimed to equip participants with effective Excel-based data processing skills, covering tasks from data cleaning and standardization to analysis and visualization.

As technology integration becomes increasingly essential in education, mastering data analysis tools is no longer optional but a core competency for lecturers. To address this need, the course was meticulously designed with practical, easy-to-apply content, combining theory with hands-on practice.

Structured into multiple topics, the course guided participants from basic techniques to advanced applications. Through practical exercises, lecturers learned to use Excel functions for calculations, data analysis, and reporting. A key highlight was Dashboard design, featuring chart types such as column, line, pie, box, and scatter plots that help lecturers better visualize information for reporting and assessment purposes.

The course also focused on analyzing student performance data, a common challenge in teaching, such as calculating module grade averages, determining pass/fail rates, detecting grading inconsistencies, or resolving errors caused by incorrect data entry. These skills not only enable lecturers to better monitor learning quality but also support the university in making accurate, timely management decisions.

Additionally, the program introduced Excel as a foundational tool for advanced data analytics using platforms like Power BI, a widely adopted data visualization software in education and business. This connection between traditional skills and modern technology empowers lecturers to stay ahead in the digitalization of education.

“Excel Mastery” is part of Van Lang University’s ongoing digital skills training initiatives, strengthening our faculty with technology-driven capabilities and fostering a modern, efficient learning environment.
