With the mission of training people who bring positive and inspiring impacts to society, Van Lang University is committed to implementing educational policies for the goal of sustainable development in all activities of the University, in which training is focused on investment and drastically implemented in many aspects.
Training module “Environment and People.”
The subject “Environment and People” was started to be included in the training program of a number of majors at Van Lang University from the 2013 - 2014 academic year. Up to now, the subject has been expanded to teach all students of the training majors of the standard university program and the honors program.
The “Environment and People” subject is designed for students who do not specialize in the environment, helping students acquire basic knowledge about the environment, the interrelationship between humans and the environment, and the scientific environment basis, causes and consequences of environmental pollution and climate change, solutions to reduce pollution and adapt to the impacts of climate change. The subject content is conveyed on the basis of students' self-research with the support of lecturers on content, study roadmap, and research methods.
Major topics in the Environment and People training program include: Some basic concepts about the environment; environmental pollution and impacts; approaches to environmental protection; mitigation and adaptation to climate change. The subject not only trains students in problem-solving thinking skills, independent work, and teamwork, but also contributes to forming a sense of environmental protection in daily life and future professional activities.
Learning combined with community service
In Vietnam, Van Lang University is one of the pioneering universities to deploy Service-Learning model training for students in the Honors Training program since 2019. By applying learning methods combining classroom theory and implementing community projects, the program helps students contribute practical values to many difficult situations across the country.
Expanding the spread of positive values, community activities of Honors Training program students and international program students also connect the participation of many international student groups from Singapore and Malaysia. , Netherlands, England,....
For students of the standard program, each year, you contribute thousands of projects solving issues related to the 17 sustainable development goals through the Global Citizen Skills subject. In this subject, students are trained in knowledge and skills in the field to solve social problems and directly build community projects through the annual Happy World Invocations competition.
Developing the Department of Environmental Engineering Technology
Established in 1995, the Faculty of Environment is one of the leading groups in scientific research activities and training quality which is affirmed at Van Lang University. In 2022, the Department of Environmental Engineering Technology is proud to be one of the first four majors of the University to receive AUN-QA accreditation certification.
The Environmental Engineering Technology major at Van Lang University aims to train experts with solid knowledge of the environment, resources and related technologies, while encouraging creative thinking and the ability to explore solutions to complex environmental problems. Through the application of advanced technology and the development of methods for recycling and reusing resources, the field of study focuses on solving problems related to (1) water treatment and protection, aiming at safe water sources, ensuring aquatic ecosystems – SDG 6 & SDG 14; (2) solid waste management and treatment, focusing on reducing, recycling, reusing, recovering valuable materials, limiting - SDGs 7, 12, & 15; (3) adaptation to climate change – SDG 11 and SDG 13.
In addition to undergraduate programs, Van Lang University offers Master's programs in Environmental Engineering, Masters in Natural Resources and Environmental Management and Doctoral programs in Environmental Science. For postgraduate majors, Van Lang University focuses on finding solutions for green growth, sustainable development and circular economy, as well as developing technology and management to deal with these problems. The environmental imperative includes researching and implementing solutions to problems such as microplastic pollution and persistent organic pollutants. Waste treatment and recycling technology is also an important part of this development orientation, helping to minimize the impact of waste on the environment, actively contributing to environmental protection and building a better future.
Students at Van Lang University not only learn theory but also practice in a learning environment that promotes gender equality. The university ensures that every individual is respected, regardless of gender, religion, disability or ethnic origin, and has equal access to knowledge and development opportunities. The university believes that an equal learning environment helps students develop comprehensively and confidently, ready to show their abilities and potential. In addition, the Faculty of Environment also focuses on creating opportunities for students and lecturers to improve their professional capacity through scientific research projects, talk shows with leading experts, and practical observations, exchanges with international students,...
The Faculty of Environment of Van Lang University organized a workshop within the framework of the international project PEER Cycle 9 - "Nano-assisted bioremediation of diffused dioxins in soil and sediment".
