Van Lang University implements teaching observations, improving training competence for lecturers

Since February 27, 2023, Van Lang University has issued regulations on scheduled teaching hours, applicable to all training units and lecturers teaching all modules in the training program.

Time observation is a professional activity in the educational environment, supporting the supervision and development of teaching content and methods. By attending their colleagues' classes, lecturers can exchange professional experiences and help each other in their work, improving the quality of teaching and learning activities. 

At Van Lang University, class observation and teaching are mandatory activities applied to all training units and lecturers teaching all modules in the training program. This is the basis for checking and evaluating the quality of lectures in all subjects of more than 60 majors being trained at Van Lang. The results of the lesson observation activities are the basis for the university to evaluate the training of lecturers and competition between units, thereby organizing training sessions, improving lecturers' competence, and upgrading the quality of management and training in the university.

According to the issued regulations, each lecturer must be observed by training units to provide professional feedback at least once per school year, in which the duration of each observation session is at least 1 lecture period (45 - 50 minutes). The content of the lecture must closely follow the content and outline of the subject and the module of which the lecturer is in charge.

Class observation activities are divided into three forms:  

• Regular class observation to give feedback and learn from each other in expertise, which can be done directly or online through teaching software;  
• Attending lectures for associate lecturers who have finished their internship and lecturers who have changed positions;  
• Attending unscheduled hours to check and evaluate when there is feedback.

Comments, suggestions, and evaluations of the Observation Team or Observation Council must be based on a constructive, didactic and serious spirit, and be carried out in accordance with regulations, order, fairness and objectivity.

Not only does it create opportunities for students to be more active in learning, and lecturers to become more proactive in improving the quality of lectures, teaching observation at Van Lang University also plays an important role in the current educational model. Current university pedagogy promotes the spirit of solidarity, creativity and progress in all aspects of university education.

In addition to implementing class observation, Van Lang University also regularly organizes professional seminars, connecting domestic and foreign experts to create conditions for lecturers to have academic exchange and improve their professional skills.
