From December 14 to 18, 2025, at the Medical Skills Training Center (MSC), Van Lang University, in collaboration with Operation Smile Vietnam, co-organized the training program “Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Courses.” The program was certified by the American Heart Association (AHA) and attracted the participation of doctors and nurses currently working at hospitals and healthcare institutions across the country.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu, President of Van Lang University, emphasized the core humanitarian significance of the program. According to her, the course is not simply about obtaining a professional certificate, but rather a training process that requires voluntary commitment, a strong sense of responsibility, and readiness from healthcare professionals when facing life-and-death situations involving patients. Van Lang University consistently affirms that education in the health sciences must be closely linked to practice, continuous training, and real-world experience, enabling learners to respond proficiently in emergency situations. Internationally standardized programs such as those certified by the AHA align with the University’s educational philosophy and our mission to create positive impacts for the community.

Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu reaffirmed that the program not only aims at professional certification but also emphasizes responsibility, practical competence, and readiness among healthcare professionals, in line with the University’s orientation toward practice-based education and community service.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Duc, Program Director of Operation Smile Vietnam, expressed her expectations for long-term collaboration between the two institutions. She noted that Operation Smile and Van Lang University share many similarities in their community-oriented missions, particularly in healthcare for children and vulnerable groups. Selecting Van Lang University as the host for this training program is considered an initial step toward broader cooperation in medical education and humanitarian healthcare activities in the future.

Coordinated by Operation Smile, the program features a team of reputable domestic and international instructors recognized by the American Heart Association. The training content emphasizes the standardization of CPR knowledge and skills following AHA guidelines, integrating theoretical instruction, clinical simulations, and hands-on practice. Topics include the in-hospital and out-of-hospital Chain of Survival, BLS and PALS techniques, the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), teamwork, and emergency response. Through practice-based and simulation-based training methods, participants worked directly with medical mannequins and practiced managing emergency scenarios in an environment closely resembling real clinical settings.

During the first training session, participants were introduced to the in-hospital and out-of-hospital Chain of Survival model, practiced using AEDs, strengthened rapid response and teamwork skills in emergencies, and completed theoretical and practical assessments in accordance with AHA standards.

The program was implemented at the Medical Skills Training Center of Van Lang University, with facilities and training spaces that meet the requirements of an international-standard CPR training program. The simulation rooms, emergency training equipment, and practice areas have been systematically developed, enabling the delivery of in-depth training activities that closely reflect real clinical contexts. This also serves as a foundation for Van Lang University to gradually expand our training, professional development, and collaboration activities in the field of health sciences.

The “Basic and Advanced CPR Program” contributes to creating opportunities for doctors and nurses, both within and beyond Van Lang University, to update their knowledge and enhance emergency response skills according to international standards. Through co-organizing and implementing the program, Van Lang University continues to expand professional connections with reputable organizations, gradually enhancing the quality of health sciences education, and making practical contributions to community healthcare.
