On November 25th and 26th, 2022, the Faculty of Environment at Van Lang University, in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, co-organized the International Symposium on Water Sustainability & Green Technology (WSGT 2022).

The International Symposium on Water Sustainability and Green Technology - WSGT 2022 is one of the annual scientific events jointly organized by Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and the Faculty of Environment at Van Lang University. This symposium serves as a major scientific forum in the field of Environmental Engineering and Management in Vietnam, providing opportunities for experts, students, businesses, and managers from research institutes and universities around the world to exchange and share experiences in the environmental field, particularly in water environment and the current widespread application of advanced technologies in treatment, monitoring, and analysis.

On November 25th and 26th, 2022, the Faculty of Environment at Van Lang University, in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, organized the international symposium on “ Water Sustainability and Green Technology - WSGT 2022”

The symposium was led by world-leading environmental scientists:

-         Prof. Chettiyappan VISVANATHAN, School of Environment, Resources and Development Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand

-         Prof. Ngo Huu Hao, University of Technology Sydney, Australia

-         Prof. Nghiem Duc Long, University of Technology Sydney, Australia

-         Prof. Julien Némery, University Grenoble Alpes/IGE, France.

-         Prof. Wenshan Guo, University of Technology Sydney, Australia

Taking place in two days, November 25th and 26th, 2022, at the REX Hotel (District 1), the symposium attracted over 150 experts from 10 countries in the world including France, Thailand, the Philippines, India and so on. With 31 discourses and 51 poster exhibitions, the conference highlighted significant contributions revolving around the following topics: (1) Wastewater treatment and reuse; (2) Resource recovery from wastewater; (3) Greenhouse gas emissions control from wastewater treatment processes; (4) Water resource management and supply; (5) Nano-technologies in water treatment; (6) Advanced analytical methods for water and wastewater; (7) Breakthrough technologies and applications for water treatment and water resource management.

During the conference, researchers presented a total of 31 discourses focusing on 7 main topics related to water sustainability and green technologies.

Giving the opening speech at the symposium, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu - President of Van Lang University, emphasized that the role of scientific research in education and the the Environmental field gave a significant contribution to the society, especially during Vietnam's development phase towards sustainable development goals and a circular economy transition. "Van Lang University is committed to training high-quality human resources to serve society, the community, and address global and local issues of the contemporary world. We are proud of having identified the sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the "Green University" project as key elements in Van Lang University's long-term strategies," shared by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu – President of Van Lang University stated that the university has identified Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the "Green University" project as key elements in Van Lang University's long-term strategies.

Within the framework of the symposium, the Faculty of Environment of Van Lang University contributed 3 discourses:

  1. Discourse on "Potential for reuse of boiler fly ash and bottom ash: A study in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam", Dr. Ho Thi Thanh Hien 
  2. Discourse on “Cellulose Hydrogel Fibre from Nipa Palm (Nypa Fruticans) Shell used for Adsorption of Methylene Blue from Wastewater”, Dr. Nguyen Dang Khoa; 
  3. Discourse on “How blackwater septic tanks in Vietnam are safely treated?”, Dr. Huynh Tan Loi 

The research conducted by lecturers of the Faculty of Environment of Van Lang University has attracted the attention of experts and scientists from organizations and universities around the world because of the urgency and significance of the topics.
