Van Lang University brought clean water to students at Phu Dong Primary School (Quang Nam)

On May 26th, 2022, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Dentistry of Van Lang University were present at Phu Dong Primary School, Thang Binh District, Quang Nam Province, to hand over a system of drilled wells, pumps, and RO water purification machines with a total value of 50,000,000 VND to the school and the local community.

The handover ceremony was honored to welcome the Deputy Chairman of Binh Tu Commune - Mr. Ho Tan Dung, Chairman of the Commune's Education Promotion Association - Mr. Duong Van Trieu, the school's board of presidents, teachers of Phu Dong Primary School, as well as representatives from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Dentistry of Van Lang University. 

Located in the eastern part of Thang Binh District, Quang Nam Province, Phu Dong Primary School has 157 students, with over 90% of them coming from farming families facing particularly difficult economic circumstances. The water source they are currently using is primarily drawn from dried-up wells, which have been severely contaminated due to the lack of a filtration system to ensure sanitation standards. 

After discussions with the local authorities and the school's administration, in February 2022, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, in collaboration with the Faculty of Dentistry initiated a funded project to install a clean drinking water supply system for the students of Phu Dong Primary School in Thang Binh District, Quang Nam Province. The system includes: 01 newly drilled well, a pump, a water tank, 02 water purification machines for the branch (a complete system for the branch in the village), and 02 water purification machines for the main school. All four of these machines have RO (Reverse Osmosis) technology with 2 hot and cold faucets to meet the daily drinking water needs of the young students. 

In addition, to encourage a spirit of learning and resilience in the difficulties, Van Lang University donated gifts consisting of 15 backpacks with caps and VLU pencils, while the Faculty of Dentistry awarded 15 scholarships, each valued at 1,000,000 VND, and 12 rolling backpacks (with a total value of 3,400,000 VND) to the students of Phu Dong Primary School in Quang Nam Province. 

Each meaningful volunteer activity of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Van Lang University will take place from now until the end of August 2022. Among these activities, the collaborative project with the Faculty of Dentistry to donate a drilled well, pump, and RO water purification system to Phu Dong Primary School has brought joy, happiness, and added motivation to the school's children in the eastern part of Thang Binh District, Quang Nam Province. Once again, thank you to the lecturers and students of both faculties for contributing to spreading the Van Lang spirit to the community and delivering valuable benefits to society.
