On November 28, 2023, in the workshop "University study skills in the global integration context," Honors program students discussed the differences between the processes of studying at university and high school with experts from Fontys University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands), and Kasetsart University (Thailand).
During the workshop "University study skills in the global integration context" on November 28, 2023, Honors program students explored university life through the sharing sessions by Dr. Maurice Cuypers, Chairman of the BELCO Higher Education Alliance, Director of the Acceleration Student Program, and Head of Fontys University of Applied Sciences' International Relations Department (Netherlands).

Students stated that the university environment encourages creativity and self-expression, a contrast to high school where they often relied heavily on teachers and followed a strict curriculum. The process of self-study, broadening horizons through practical experience, and engaging in projects has helped students gain experience, knowledge, and, most importantly, a passion for their subjects and majors.

Prof. Matthew P. Downs, Senior Advisor on International Educational Relations at Kasetsart University (Thailand) hopes that the open learning environment at the university will help students change their mindset, raise awareness, and study attitude. Additionally, two guests shared tips on effective teamwork, study habits, and test preparation techniques. Unlike high school, university students must become acquainted with conducting research, developing, and implementing study plans, projects for subjects and work.

Regarding scientific research, Prof. Matthew Downs emphasized the importance for students to develop the habit of utilizing the wealth of information and resources available in university and local libraries. This is an ideal place for students to concentrate and easily find necessary materials for group discussions and assignments. He added, "Club - Team - Group are excellent for students to quickly get used to the university life, meet new friends, while updating your knowledge, life skills and physical well-being to fully develop yourself."
Thanks to the experts, students in VLU's Honors program have gained helpful tips for their studies and extracurricular activities. We wish them a diverse and enriching university experience.
