Van Lang Student Sports Tournament 2025: A Multifaceted Athletic Event Featuring 11 Competitions

Van Lang University officially inaugurated the Van Lang Student Sports Tournament on March 17th, 2025. This event is part of the activities commemorating the 94th anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26th, 1931 - March 26th, 2025) and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Van Lang University (1995-2024). 

On the evening of March 17th, the Van Lang University Student Sports Tournament  2025 officially commenced, launching the season with over 1,700 athletes from 22 faculties. Continuing the tradition of previous years, the sports festival made its mark with professional organization and a diverse range of competitions, including Tug of War, Mini Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Athletics, Badminton, Swimming, Esports, Chess, and Dance Showcase. 

At the event's opening, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi My Dieu, President of Van Lang University, quoted Usain Bolt, saying, "I trained four years to run nine seconds, and people quit after two months." She urged students to surpass their limits, stating, "The true competition is with oneself. Each incremental improvement is a victory. To be a better version of yourself today is commendable." 

A notable innovation of this year's Van Lang University Student Sports Tournament is that the Organizing Committee will recognize the results from the VLU Run 2025 as Athletics achievements for athletes who registered and completed the race within the stipulated time.

Notably, this year’s Sports Festival marks its inaugural opening at the 8th-floor multi-purpose gymnasium in Building J, a new facility implemented since the 2024-2025 academic year. The nearly 1,000m² gymnasium, with a seating capacity of approximately 500, is equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning, lighting, sound systems, luxurious interiors, a multi-functional sports floor, and equipment for various sports including basketball, table tennis, volleyball, badminton, handball, and tennis, providing an ideal environment for professional sports training and competitions.

The Opening Ceremony also witnessed the enthusiastic participation of hundreds of athletes, all demonstrating a high level of competitive spirit in the opening event: tug-of-war. This discipline attracts a vast number of athletes and spectators annually. The atmosphere in the stands was electrified by the cheers and shouts of hundreds of supporters.
