On December 5, 2024, VLU Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities hosted the online webinar titled “Type A Personality: Psychological Interventions – Why, When, and How”. The event served as a platform for leading experts to share and exchange knowledge and experiences in the field of psychology.
The webinar revolved around discussions on Type A personality—a psychological concept developed in 1958 by Friedman and Rosenman. Participants had the opportunity to explore and reflect on their personalities through a Type A Personality Assessment, facilitated by Dr. Nguyen Thi Van Thanh.
Notably, the webinar was honored to feature a presentation by Professor Ronald O’Donnell. He is a clinical psychology professor from Arizona State University, a consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO) in Vietnam, and the President of Suncrane Health Solutions, LLC, which operates in China and Southeast Asia.
During his presentation, Professor O’Donnell provided in-depth analyses of the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in addressing the hostile tendencies often associated with Type A personalities. He emphasized the importance of techniques such as breathing exercises, mindfulness, and relaxation to manage emotions like anger and frustration. The webinar inspired participants to explore suitable strategies to effectively care for and balance their psychological well-being.
The webinar concluded successfully, offering invaluable insights from leading experts in the field. Practical sharing and in-depth analyses helped students and attendees gain a clearer understanding of pressing psychological issues. Furthermore, participants were equipped with actionable knowledge that could be applied in their personal lives, professional endeavors, and relationships.
