To enhance quality assurance capacity and effectively prepare for program evaluation activities under AUN-QA standards, the Department of Quality Assurance (QAD) organized a training workshop on “Guidelines for Writing Self-Assessment Reports (SAR) Based on AUN-QA Standards” from January 22 to 23, 2026, at Room J5.03 – Campus 3. The program drew the participation of 60 managers, lecturers, and staff involved in program quality assurance activities from the Faculty of Finance and Banking, Faculty of Arts and Design, Faculty of Accounting and Auditing, Faculty of Architecture, and functional units including the Department of Academic Affairs, Department of Human Resources and Administration, Department of Research Development, Department of Admissions and Communication, Department of Quality Assurance, Department of Facilities Management, and Center for Educational Testing.
At the workshop, Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin focused on guiding participants in developing and presenting SARs according to each criterion of the AUN-QA standards. He clarified approaches to writing about program objectives and expected learning outcomes, program structure and content, teaching and learning approaches, student assessment, academic staff, facilities, as well as quality improvement activities. Specific criteria were analyzed in detail, accompanied by guidance on using evidence, data, and citations to strengthen the report's credibility. In addition, the workshop pointed out key considerations when writing and implementing SARs, such as ensuring honesty and consistency among criteria, avoiding vague descriptions, and focusing on analyzing the level of fulfillment rather than merely listing activities. In particular, the development of improvement plans was emphasized, requiring clear objectives, solutions, assigned responsibilities, and specific implementation timelines.

The discussion and Q&A session was highly engaging, with many questions about selecting appropriate evidence, handling fragmented data, and common pitfalls in the process of writing SARs based on AUN-QA standards. The issues were thoroughly addressed and drawing on practical experiences from successfully evaluated programs.

At the end of the two-day workshop, the President of Van Lang University presented commemorative gifts to Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin and awarded certificates of completion to participants, recognizing the learning achievements of all attendees.

Through the workshop, VLU's staff and faculty members were equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop SARs that meet required standards, contributing to the effectiveness of quality assurance and the continuous improvement of training programs in accordance with regional and international standards.
