In anticipation of the 30th anniversary of the University's founding (1995 - 2025) and with the desire to promote a healthy and positive lifestyle for union members, in May 2024, the Trade Union of Van Lang University is organizing the VLU 2024 Sports Festival for Staff and Faculty. The event has attracted a large number of lecturers and staff to compete in two exciting categories.
The Sports Festival is an annual event organized by the Executive Committee of the Van Lang University Trade Union. Through training and competition, union members have the opportunity to connect with each other after work hours, foster a spirit of solidarity, improve their health, and create many beautiful memories in the Van Lang family.
In 2024, the Van Lang University Sports Festival for Staff and Faculty will feature two events: Chess and Mountain Running. The event has garnered enthusiastic participation and support from numerous lecturers and staff members.
The 2024 VLU Sports Festival for Staff and Faculty attracted a significant number of union members, who participated in two intellectually and physically stimulating events: Chess and Cross-Country Running.
In the Chess event, 10 teams representing various departments, faculties, and functional units of Van Lang University competed in rotation over 4 days. The faculty members showcased their talents through innovative and strategically rich moves on the chessboard. Following intense matches, the team from the Institute for Computational Science and Artificial Intelligence (COSARI) emerged victorious, claiming the championship title in this year's Chess competition at the sports festival.
Each afternoon, the outdoor garden on the fourth floor of the main campus came alive with the bustling activity of chess teams competing and enthusiastic supporters from various units.The tournaments contributed significantly to strengthening the unity among members within each unit.The Van Lang University faculty members showcased their talents through innovative and strategically rich chess moves.With convincing victories in each round of the competition, the team from the Institute for Computational Science and Artificial Intelligence emerged as the undisputed champions in the Chess event at the 2024 sports festival.
On May 19, 2024, the main campus atmosphere echoed with laughter as hundreds of Van Lang University union members participated in the Mountain Running competition. This "national sport" garnered widespread support from both lecturers and staff, spanning across all age groups within the Van Lang University community.
Early in the morning, Van Lang University union members arrived to check in and receive their competition numbers.The Cross-Country Running event attracted hundreds of Van Lang University union members, spanning across all age groups.Ms. Tran Thi Thu Thuy, Chairwoman of the Van Lang University Trade Union, delivered words of encouragement to the faculty members before the commencement of the running competition.Van Lang University athletes performed warm-up exercises before the start of the competition.The Executive Committee of the Van Lang University Trade Union - the enthusiastic organizers of the Sports Festival.Van Lang University union members began the race amidst cheers and enthusiastic support.The Sports Festival is not only a competition but also a platform for lecturers and staff to connect with their colleagues.Even the “young athletes" enthusiastically followed their parents to the weekend competition.MsC. Ho Thi Thanh Nhan from the Faculty of Arts & Design completed her race and secured the First Prize in the women's category aged 35 - 45.The closely contested results brought both fans and athletes to tears of emotion.Athletes shared their joy at the finish line with their supporters.The Faculty of Commerce at Van Lang University "excelled" with 7 awards in the Cross-Country Running event at this year's sports festival.
As a participant in the Cross-Country Running category for athletes aged 46 and above, and achieving the "Sporting Spirit" award this year, Ms. Pham Minh Thu, a lecturer from the Faculty of Pharmacy, has inspired others with her positive attitude, dedication to sports training, and commitment to improving health for the Van Lang University community, regardless of age.
At the opening ceremony, MsC. Tran Thi Thu Thuy, Chairwoman of the Van Lang University Trade Union, shared: "This is a traditional event of the annual sports activities organized by the Van Lang University Trade Union. In the cheerful atmosphere of the weekend filled with energy, I hope that our lecturers and staff will compete to the best of their abilities and achieve great results.”
