On November 27, 2024, the Faculty of Tourism at Van Lang University in collaboration with the Vietnam Food Beverage Ecosystem (VFBE) and World Food Travel Association (WFTA), organized theRESTAURANT Leadership 2024 (theRES24). The event served as a platform to introduce and officially announce the project “Vietnam: The Journey to Become a New ‘Gastronomy Capital’ of the World” (VGC), marking a significant milestone in Vietnam’s pursuit of global culinary recognition.

The event brought together numerous experts, 15 consulate representatives, and over 900 leading businesses in the Food & Beverage (F&B) sector. Along with highlighting outstanding culinary business solutions and achievements at the Excellence Show, theRES24 also provided networking opportunities for over 6,500 businesses and potential suppliers within the Food & Beverage Ecosystem (FBE). In addition to the topic of public communication strategies and navigating challenges within the F&B industry, theRES24 hosted two more discussion sessions with current topics such as: "Mainpower - Connecting and Developing Human Resources"
and “Media - Communicating and Promoting Cultural Culinary Values”

Speaking about his admiration for Vietnam’s cuisine, Mr. Chu Hong Minh, CEO of VFBE and President of the ASEAN Restaurant Association Alliance (ARAA), affirmed that “Vietnam possesses all the essential elements to become a 'Gastronomy Capital' in the future. Vietnamese people have long transformed life’s essence into culinary philosophies, creating deeply rooted cultural values. Each restaurant and eatery strives to act as a 'mini capital' in its respective local corner, thereby enhancing the stature of the national cuisine.”
In the project’s overview, Mr. Chu Hong Minh outlined three major challenges to address: resource collaboration, global recognition, and economic value creation. Based on the challenges, he also identified three key pillars for success: Uniting domestic and international talent and resources; Promoting Vietnam’s cultural culinary values; Boosting economic growth and value-added within the culinary sector.

TheRES24 not only creates an open space for culinary exchange but also facilitates significant partnership agreements among five key organizations: VFBE, Van Lang University (VLU), the ASEAN Restaurant Association Alliance (ARAA), the World Association of Master Chefs (WAMC), and Pencil Group. These agreements aim to establish a strong foundation for the advancement of Vietnam’s culinary industry while promoting connections, knowledge exchange, and collaboration between domestic and international experts.
