In accordance with the Q2/2025 plan to implement community activities and programs to support farmers in Vinh Long province, the Executive Committee of the Van Lang University Trade Union carried out the activity “Joining Hands to Consume Green Oranges – Supporting Vinh Long Farmers.” After the registration period, on April 25, 2024, Van Lang University trade union members enthusiastically responded and “rescued” 6.5 tons of Vinh Long green oranges.
Currently, the selling price of green oranges in Vinh Long and provinces in the Mekong Delta is very low; in some places, the farm gate price for farmers is only 3,000 VND/kg. This price level puts green orange farmers at risk of heavy losses and forces them to cut down their orchards. To support the farmers of Vinh Long province, the Executive Committee of the Van Lang University Trade Union cooperated with the Vinh Long Red Cross to implement the activity “Joining Hands to Consume Green Oranges – Supporting Vinh Long Farmers.” The green oranges were transported directly from Tra On district, Vinh Long province – a famous large orange-growing area in the Southwest region. On April 25, 2025, in a short time, more than 6.5 tons of green oranges were sold through two “orange stalls” arranged at Campus 1 and the Main Campus of Van Lang University.
Ms. Tran Thi Thu Thuy, Chairwoman of the Van Lang University Trade Union, expressed: “The greatest success of the program is attracting a large number of trade union members to participate, demonstrating the spreading spirit of solidarity and mutual support in the Van Lang community. The support from the Van Lang community not only helps farmers and consumers but also contributes to building a beautiful image, humanitarian spirit, and social responsibility of Van Lang University and its Trade Union in the role of accompanying and sharing with the community.”
The space of the “orange stalls” at Van Lang University campuses has become a lively and warm gathering point. Lecturers, trade union members, and staff took advantage of their breaks to come and buy, both supporting farmers and spreading the spirit of sharing.
