On October 23, 2024, the closing ceremony of the program “Around the World of Vibrant Colors: Global Leaders 2024” successfully took place at Van Lang University. The event brought together 30 students from multicultural families studying at secondary and high schools in Gwangju, South Korea.
The “Around the World of Vibrant Colors: Global Leaders 2024” program is a meaningful project organized by the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education (South Korea) and Van Lang University, aiming to provide students from Vietnamese-Korean multicultural families with opportunities to enhance their understanding of language, culture, and have meaningful experience life in their parents' homeland.
Ms. Lee Young Sun, Director of the Institute for Children's Educational Advancement in Gwangju, expressed: "Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in Vietnam with a thriving education sector, including more than 50 universities. Among them, Van Lang University stands out for its modern learning environment and high-quality education, making it a popular choice among students. This program not only enables Korean students to directly experience and gain deeper insights into Vietnamese history and culture but also fosters cultural exchange between the two nations."
Under the enthusiastic guidance of lecturers and students from the Faculty of Korean Language and Culture, participants explored famous attractions in Ho Chi Minh City, such as the Independence Palace, Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon, Central Post Office, and War Remnants Museum. They were especially impressed by the beauty and solemnity of Van Lang University, visiting the Heritage Room, the Hung Kings Memorial Room, and various major buildings and lecture halls.
Students also learned about traditional Vietnamese greetings, basic communication and children's songs in the Vietnamese language. Additionally, the students and teachers engaged in traditional Vietnamese folk games, such as mandarin square capturing, parcheesi and other physical activities, including rope skipping, shuttlecock kicking, and tug-of-war. One of the highlights was creating and savoring iconic Vietnamese street foods, such as Banh mi - vietnamese baguette and spring rolls. These activities not only deepened the students' understanding of Vietnamese culture but also fostered friendships and created unforgettable memories.
The “Around the World of Vibrant Colors: Global Leaders 2024” program provided students with the opportunity to explore Vietnamese culture and strengthen their bonds with one another. It nurtured a love and pride for both Vietnam and South Korea, the students' dual homelands. The joyful moments, in-depth knowledge, and enriching experiences gained during the program are cherished memories. These serve as a vital foundation for shaping the participants into future global leaders.
