On the morning of May 19, 2025, students from Class 29 specialized in Fashion Branding & Management, Faculty of Arts & Design, Van Lang University officially entered their first project defense. With meticulous preparation and high expectations from the evaluation committee, the event drew a large audience of students and left a lasting impression.
Unlike conventional fashion projects that primarily focus on clothing design, the Fashion Branding & Management major offers a more comprehensive approach. Students are not only tasked with creating fashion pieces that reflect their personal identity but are also responsible for building the entire brand identity - from positioning strategy to image management. The project requires students to complete a full process: conducting market trend research, analyzing target audiences, designing logos, creating moodboards, developing concepts, selecting materials, applying garment construction techniques, producing a lookbook featuring 1 to 3 products, and, notably, selecting models that best embody the brand spirit.

The project defense was attended by the Board of Examiners:

More than 40 collections were presented by Class 29 students, showcasing a wide range of creative perspectives and bringing diversity and freshness to the approach of resort fashion. Each project demonstrated a harmonious combination of contemporary design thinking and brand-building skills—clearly reflecting the students’ readiness to work in the highly competitive fashion industry. More than just a graduation project defense, the event was treated by students as a professional fashion showcase - with meticulously curated lookbooks, thoughtfully arranged space, and a well-organized presentation and evaluation process - demonstrating their seriousness and passion for the craft.

During the project defense, designer Le Thanh Hoa expressed his surprise at the quality of the submissions. Although these were the students’ first projects, the designs demonstrated meticulous execution, creativity, and a professional mindset - comparable to those of final-year students.

Ms. Tran Nguyen Thien Huong - CEO and Group Editor of Harper’s Bazaar - offered high praise: “The second-year students of the Fashion Branding & Management major at VLU did an excellent job, from brand identity to garment design. This is a relatively new program, but it aligns perfectly with the development trends of the modern world. These students embody everything required of both designers and entrepreneurs”.
