In order to provide students with the opportunity to experience real-life situations through mock trials, and to enable students to gain a deeper understanding of the field of law, on the 13th and 20th of May 2024, the Law Education and Outreach program of the Faculty of Law at Van Lang University organized a mock court hearing to try a criminal case of "Intentional Injury" at Nguyen Trung Truc and Ly Thai To High Schools (Go Vap district), raising awareness on preventing violence among nearly 1000 12th grade students.

Designed to be an effective tool for legal education, the mock trials meticulously adhered to all components, procedures, and formalities outlined in the Criminal Procedure Code. Accordingly, the Faculty of Law students at Van Lang University assumed all roles within the courtroom, including the people's jury, secretary, prosecutor, lawyer, defendant, and defendant's relatives. Their performances ensured the realistic and dignified portrayal of the legal system.

Dr. Lawyer Nguyen Tat Thanh, Head of the Department of Criminal Law and Law Education and Outreach program, expressed his appreciation to the high schools for facilitating the mock trials during the weekly meetings. In addition, he expected these unique activities to equip students at Nguyen Trung Truc High School and Ly Thai To High Schools (Go Vap) with valuable legal knowledge and practical lessons.

The "Intentional Injury" mock trial was scripted by the Law Education and Outreach program under the guidance and consultation of the lecturers from the Faculty of Law at Van Lang University. The content of the trial was based on a situation where juveniles had online conflicts on social media that escalated into physical altercations using homemade weapons such as knives, three-pronged lances, and metal rods. Despite intentionally causing injury to juveniles but not resulting in actual injury, the 6 defendants received a 2-year non-custodial reform sentence and a fine of 200,000 VND.
