The 80th Anniversary of the Education Sector’s Tradition and the Opening Convocation for Academic Year 2025–2026

In harmony with the nationwide celebration of the Opening Convocation for the new academic year and the 80th Anniversary of the Education Sector’s Tradition, on the morning of September 5, 2025, Van Lang University held the Opening Convocation for Academic Year 2025–2026, alongside the Commendation Ceremony honoring 568 outstanding students with the title “Outstanding Youth Following Uncle Ho’s Teachings” for Academic Year 2024–2025.

On the morning of September 5, 2025, Van Lang University joined the nationwide celebration of the new academic year, marking the 80th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s first letter to students across the country and the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the National Education Ministry, the predecessor of today’s Ministry of Education and Training. The Opening Convocation of the academic year 2025 - 2026 became a historic milestone as, for the first time, all educational institutions nationwide simultaneously held the flag-raising ceremony, sang the National Anthem, and followed the live broadcast from the National Convention Center in Hanoi.

In the shared joy of the education sector, the administrators, staff, lecturers, and students of Van Lang University solemnly organized the Opening Convocation for the new academic year in a spirit of excitement, reverence, and high expectations for a year of growth, unity, and aspirations for innovation.

On this special occasion, in his important address, General Secretary To Lam emphasized: “Education and training are the foremost national policy and the key driving force determining the nation’s future. More than ever, we must regard investment in education as investment in the future, in sustainable development, and in the nation’s prosperity.”

He also conveyed a heartfelt message to the young generation of Vietnamese students: “Our forefathers achieved victory through their sacrifice and blood. Today, in times of peace, integration, and the aspiration to rise, your responsibility is to achieve new victories through knowledge – courage – and creativity. Therefore, you must: (1) set clear goals, practice disciplined self-learning, and nurture a passion for discovery; (2) strengthen your capacity, master digital technology and artificial intelligence in an intelligent, safe, and humane way; (3) cultivate compassion, sharing, and a sense of responsibility toward yourself, your family, and the community.”

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son emphasized that entering the new academic year also marks the beginning of a new phase for the education sector, in the context of profound global transformations, particularly the strong development of digital technology and artificial intelligence. These factors are reshaping global education, compelling nations to redefine their vision, strategies, and policies in order to compete and attract talent. The Minister affirmed: “Our country is facing a historic opportunity for breakthrough development to successfully achieve the two centenary goals. The demand for building people and developing high-quality human resources has become extremely urgent, requiring vigorous advancement in education and training.”

As part of the Convocation Ceremony, Van Lang University honored students with the title “Outstanding Youth Following Uncle Ho’s Teachings” for the academic year 2024 - 2025, celebrating 568 exemplary students who achieved outstanding accomplishments in both study and personal development. This meaningful activity aims to encourage a spirit of learning and dedication, while nurturing students to live and work with ideals, thereby creating positive values for the community and society.

Dr. Vo Van Tuan - Member of the University Council, Standing Vice-President - affirmed that the title “Outstanding Youth Following Uncle Ho’s Teachings” is a well-deserved “sweet fruit,” marking an important milestone in the students’ journey of learning and self-cultivation under the moral example of President Ho Chi Minh. He emphasized that this recognition is not only a testament to students’ efforts but also the beginning of a new journey to further enrich knowledge, improve themselves, and spread positive values to the community. He expressed his pride that today’s Van Lang students are contributing to building the image, standards, and values for future generations.

The title “Outstanding Youth Following Uncle Ho’s Teachings” is a prestigious honor initiated by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to recognize exemplary students in academic achievement and self-cultivation. In the academic year 2024 - 2025, Van Lang University implemented this recognition program for the first time, based on two main criteria - learning and dedication - further specified into seven clear standards. The program received more than 700 student applications, reflecting the strong resonance and determination of VLU’s young generation. After a rigorous and fair selection process, outstanding individuals distinguished by their knowledge, courage, and spirit of contribution were honored, becoming a source of pride for the University.
