The 2024 International Scientific Conference: Conquering the Aesthetic Challenges in Contemporary Dentistry

From October 11th to 13th, 2024, the Faculty of Dentistry at Van Lang University hosted the second annual International Scientific Conference with the theme "Conquering the Aesthetic Challenges in Contemporary Dentistry". This is the faculty’s largest academic event of the year, attracting over 400 participants from both domestic and international locations. 

The increasing demand for aesthetics in dentistry has brought about new challenges. Therefore, the theme of this year's conference is "conquering challenges", with a special focus on interdisciplinary collaboration in aesthetics - a new trend in modern dental treatment, requiring the combination of different specialties to achieve the best results for patients. The conference featured 12 impressive presentations by renowned domestic and international speakers, including Professor, Doctor Iñaki Gamborena - a world-leading expert in implant prosthodontics.

The official opening session of the conference took place on the morning of October 12, 2024, with the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Cao Binh - Chairman of the Vietnam Odonto-Stomatology Association, Director of Hanoi National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology, along with representatives from dental training institutions, research centers, and treatment facilities across Vietnam. Doctor Dr. Tran Ngoc Quang Phi - Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Van Lang University, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Conference expressed his expectation: “The conference will create a great opportunity for esteemed doctors to exchange knowledge, update the latest information, share the latest research in the field of odonto-stomatology, and connect with fellow professionals.”

Prior to that, the pre-conference "Nobel Biocare Day" with the theme "Clinical Procedures and Predictive Aesthetic Techniques in Contemporary Dental Implants" chaired by Prof. Dr. Iñaki Gamborena brought valuable clinical experiences through practical knowledge throughout the day on October 11, 2024.

The official conference took place over two days on 12-13/10/2024, focusing on reports from Prof. Dr. Iñaki Gamborena and other presenters, encompassing all prominent aspects in the field of aesthetic dentistry such as aesthetic implant placement, orthodontics, rehabilitation & reconstruction, orthognathic surgery & maxillofacial surgery.

Especially, on the afternoon of October 12, 2024, Dentistry students and young dentists had the opportunity to participate in the program "Journey to Success" with the theme "Art in Aesthetic Implantation: Igniting Passion for the Dental Industry" with Prof. Dr. Iñaki Gamborena. In addition to learning valuable clinical knowledge and experiences, young participants were inspired by Dr. Gamborena’s journey of achieving his dreams, gaining deeper insights into the value of the profession, and finding motivation to strive for excellence in dental care.

Prof. Dr. Iñaki Gamborena shares: "This is the first time I have come to teach in Vietnam. I didn't think that young dentists here would be so interested in high-quality dentistry, so I am very impressed with their interesting questions and youthful enthusiasm, which allows me to easily inspire them. I believe that the future of dentistry in your country is bright, as young dentists are striving to enhance their skills.” 

Before concluding the roundtable discussion conference: "The future of aesthetic implant treatment" led by Doctor Dr. Tran Ngoc Quang Phi - Head of Dentistry Faculty on the afternoon of October 13,provided attendees with the opportunity to listen to and exchange practical experiences with leading experts, addressing concerns about dental techniques and improving their skills in managing various patient conditions.

In addition to the official scientific program, the conference is also a place to showcase the latest state-of-the-art products from reputable units. 03 hands-on workshops are also a highlight of the program, allowing young dentists and students to hone their professional skills in periodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery under the guidance of lecturers from the Faculty of Odonto-Stomatology at Van Lang University, giving them the confidence to practice in the future.

The 2024 International Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Dentistry at Van Lang University has attracted over 400 domestic and international speakers from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Cambodia, affirming Vietnam's position in the international dental community. This conference is not only a platform for updating knowledge but also a bridge for scientists, dentists, and students to network, learn, and grow together. The success of this conference will be the driving force for the Faculty of Dentistry of Van Lang University to continue organizing even larger-scale scientific events in the future, contributing to enhancing the quality of education and research in the field of dentistry in Vietnam.
