As part of the “Sustainable Tourism” course, on the morning of April 20, 2025, the Faculty of Tourism at Van Lang University organized a workshop titled “Corporate Social Responsibility in the Tourism Industry”. The event aimed to give students the opportunity to directly engage with leading responsible tourism businesses, while also raising awareness and equipping them with practical knowledge - essential for shaping the future of Vietnam’s tourism industry.

Opening the program, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao – Deputy Head of the Travel Management Department, emphasized: “Today, the concept of sustainable tourism is drawing strong attention from the government and stakeholders across the tourism sector. This is a golden opportunity for students to grasp current trends, take initiative in learning, connect with industry professionals, and define their role in building a civilized, friendly, and sustainable tourism industry for Vietnam.”

Sharing her experiences in the field of sustainable tourism, Ms. Tran Ngoc Phuong Ha – Communications, Marketing & HR Manager at Image Travel & Events – introduced WAFORT (We Act For Responsible Tourism), a community founded in 2022 that brings together individuals, businesses, and organizations united by a mission to act for a sustainable tourism industry, based on shared criteria in environmental, cultural, and community responsibility.

Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Hang – Quality Manager at JW Marriott Saigon – introduced four core values her company upholds through the NSEW model: Nurture (community support), Sustain (sustainability), Empower (equality), and Welcome (cultural inclusivity). These principles serve as a compass to foster a tourism environment that is both humane and economically and socially efficient, especially as the world shifts toward post-pandemic recovery.

As Vietnam aligns itself with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), tourism is expected to become a thriving field for the young generation. This workshop serves as a stepping stone for Tourism students to take initiative in learning, innovating, and applying sustainable tourism principles to their future professional paths.
