Students at Van Lang University take action against climate change

Climate change has become one of the most urgent global issues, posing significant challenges to the sustainable development of nations around the world. Vietnam, with its unique geographical position, is among the countries most severely affected by this phenomenon. Recognizing the importance of environmental protection, many organizations have launched campaigns to raise community awareness and promote specific actions to mitigate the negative impacts on our living environment. In this context, Van Lang University (VLU) has actively engaged in initiatives that positively influence the community.

On the evening of August 5, 2024, VLU held an event titled “Trông” as part of a series of activities aimed at raising awareness about climate change and calling for environmental protection. The event was organized and executed by second-year students from the Department of Public Relations and Communication. Each performance in the event, from theatrical segments to costume displays, showcased the dedication and aspirations of the students to convey messages about environmental protection and hope for a brighter future for our planet.

The programme which aired on Ho Chi Minh City Television's 60s News channel and re-shared on the "60 Giây Official" YouTube channel, garnered nearly 13,000 views and attracted significant audience interest. By combining art with powerful messages about the pressing issue of environmental pollution, particularly air and water pollution, VLU students delivered an event that was both entertaining and highly educational.

Ms. Hoang Thi Thu, a lecturer at the Department of Public Relations and Communication, expressed her pride in the students: “VLU students not only recognize the problem but also take action to pursue their dreams. More importantly, they understand the need to spread the message of environmental protection to everyone. Van Lang University is truly proud of them.”

Dang Nu Khanh An, a second-year student majoring in Multimedia Communication at VLU, shared, “The event is not just an opportunity for us to express our creativity; it’s a chance to raise awareness about environmental protection in society. These small actions, when amplified, can create a positive impact on climate change mitigation.”

From awareness to action, from small steps to greater impacts, VLU hopes that through meaningful programmes and positive initiatives like the “Trông” event, the message of environmental protection will become increasingly vivid, relatable, and easily embraced by the community. This is an essential part of the efforts by Van Lang students to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of climate action, affirming the role of youth in protecting our green planet.
