On February 15th 2025, Nguyen Thao Vy - Student of Class 27 in Interior Design major, impressively secured Second Prize at the AYDA Awards with her project “Nghe Gia Vien”. This is a prestigious top-tier competition in Asia, dedicated to students passionate about Architecture and Interior Design, organized by Nippon Paint Group.
Inspired by childhood memories with her grandparents - the ones who nurtured her passion and love for traditional arts, Thao Vy chose the theme of a nursing home exclusively for “Don Ca Tai Tu” and “Cai Luong” artists.
The project “Nghe Gia Vien” consists of 5 main areas: the reception hall, the common activity area (including open spaces for reading, playing chess, and drinking tea, as well as rooms for music, painting, meditation, and wellness exercises), the tribute area, the communal dining area, and the residential area. The spatial arrangement follows a natural layering, maintaining symmetry and harmony with the overall architecture, ensuring connection while preserving privacy for the artists.
The highlight of the project is its innovative approach to preserving and promoting the value of traditional arts. It not only recreates the living space but also subtly incorporates familiar elements from the artists' daily lives, such as paper fans, mats, and traditional headpieces. Additionally, Thao Vy has integrated open spaces, bridging generations and providing artists with a sense of peace while allowing them to continue living in an artistic environment.
The AYDA Awards judges highly appreciated Thao Vy's deep approach to the theme, which goes beyond the preservation to introduce a new perspective on continuity and balance between tradition and modernity, honoring the past while looking toward the future. Sharing about this achievement, Nguyen Thao Vy expressed: “Thanks to the support of my professors and friends, along with the knowledge and skills I have gained throughout my studies at Van Lang University, I felt more confident in researching and developing my project ideas.”
Congratulations to Nguyen Thao Vy and the Interior Design major on their remarkable achievement at the AYDA Awards 2025. This success is not only a personal milestone for Thao Vy but also a testament to the program's high-quality education. We hope that with continuous creativity and dedication, Van Lang University students will keep shining, contributing to enhancing the value of Interior Design major in the global recognition.
