The mysterious, surprising, and creative short film titled “No, trong rung” (It, in the forest) by VLU Film and Television Directing students, highly appreciated by producer/ director/screenwriter Charlie Nguyen, conquered the Third Prize and Promising Prize at Practical Series Production competition.
Established in 2020, the Faculty of Theater and Cinema of Van Lang University is steadily affirming its training quality with many young talents being praised at art awards and prestigious competitions for young filmmakers. Recently, the film “No, trong rung” conducted by Film and Television Directing students Phan Thien Anh, Phan Quoc Anh (course 27) and Luu Han (course 26) won the Third Prize and Promising Prize at Practical Series Production competition.
Practical Series Production is a collaboration between director/screenwriter/producer Charlie Nguyen, Chanh Phuong Films, and Netflix to select, train, and fund the first mini-series of young filmmakers. The competition has attracted many young talents across the country to gather and implement creative short film projects.

“No, trong rung” is a 20-minute horror-mystery mini-series whose contexts are mainly set in the forest where crimes and consequences can be witnessed. The work delivered an intriguing viewpoint through captivating narrative, convincing the judges, appearing in the top three best projects, and earning the competition's Promising Award.
Luu Han, along with the twin brothers, Phan Thien Anh and Phan Quoc Anh, are no longer strangers to the VLU community as, before Practical Series Production, Luu Han had successfully won the Silver Kite award in the short film category at the 12th Kite Award in 2021 with the "Noi dau dep nhat" (The most beautiful pain) documentary. Meanwhile, the “Thien duong la ‘mot noi’ tren trai dat” (Heaven is ‘a place’ on earth) script by brothers Viet Anh and Quoc Anh was also honored by the Ho Chi Minh City Film Association in the list of works evaluated for financial support to invest in creating works by young writers in 2022 (B prize).
