On July 20, 2022, a seminar titled "Student with Sex Education and Reproductive Health" was held by the Faculty of Public Relations - Communications students. The event was a component of the "Happy World Invocations" project. This initiative is a series of community service activities spearheaded by the Soft Skills Department of the Student Success Center.
Although current reproductive health education targets adolescents, its efficiency has been limited. Recognizing the urgent need for this education, a group of public relations students from Van Lang University developed the project "Gender Equality in Reproductive Health" in the Global Citizenship Skills course led by the Student Success Center. The project aims to help Van Lang University students understand reproductive health correctly and comprehensively, an important topic that is often avoided. The project is supervised by Dr. Tran Nhat Phuong, Head of the Department of Fundamental Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Van Lang University.
The group members conducted a survey among Van Lang students to assess their awareness of reproductive health issues. The results revealed that over 50% of students held misconceptions about this topic. After more than 12 weeks of planning and implementing the project, the group organized a workshop with the theme "Students with Sex Education and Reproductive Health," providing students with the opportunity to exchange, discuss, and share their ideas. The workshop featured a speaker who delivered valuable insights on reproductive health care issues.
During more than 2 hours of the seminar, MSc. Doctor. Pham Thi Viet Phuong - Deputy Head of the Department of Internal Medicine – Pediatrics – Infection, Faculty of Medicine who has more than 20 years of professional experience shared many issues about sex education and reproductive health with students. With a friendly and open teaching style, she presented issues related to reproductive health protection vividly and attractively, helping students gain more useful knowledge, especially how to protect themselves in matters of reproductive health.
In addition to the workshop, students established a fanpage and a reproductive health consultation hotline dedicated to Van Lang University students. These platforms offer direct interactions with experts to answer any reproductive health-related queries.
Hopefully, young individuals from Van Lang will continue to maintain and develop the project in order to create positive impacts on both the Van Lang student community in particular and the young in general.
