On December 17, 2024, Van Lang University organized a seminar titled “Man and the Heritage” to commemorate the 300th birth anniversary of the great physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac. This academic event connected researchers, lecturers, students, and individuals interested in traditional medicine.
The seminar was graced by the presence of esteemed experts from various fields: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Hoa Binh - Expert in oriental medicine appraisal under the Drug Administration of Vietnam (DAV) and the Agency of Traditional Medicine Administration; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Bay - Chairwoman of the HCMC East-West Integrated Medicine Society under the HCMC Medical Association, Department of Health; Specialist Level 2 Doctor Huynh Tan Vu - Lecturer and physician at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, HCMC; Dr. Pham Dao Thinh - Researcher specializing in Vietnam’s ideological history; and Dr. Huynh Ba Loc - Expert in the field of Modern and Contemporary Vietnamese History.


Highlighting the importance of this event in VLU’s 30-year journey of development, particularly within the Health faculties, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu, President of the university, shared: “This is a great opportunity for students to access knowledge and be inspired by leading experts in traditional medicine, while also demonstrating VLU’s strong commitment to serving the community, preserving, and promoting the invaluable values that have been established by previous generations.”
With the participation of multi-disciplinary experts, the seminar offered diverse perspectives on the life, career, and immense contributions of Hai Thuong Lan Ong to medicine, philosophy, ideology, and Vietnamese culture. A total of five expert discourses were presented, including:

Following these insightful presentations, the second session, titled “Embracing and Expanding the Heritage,” featured a discussion with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Hoa Binh, Dr. Huynh Ba Loc, and Dr. Pham Dao Thinh engaged with the VLU’s lecturers and students. The discussion provided profound insights that helped clarify the values Hai Thuong Lan Ong passed down to future generations, not only relevant to medicine but also to culture, ideology, and philosophy of life.

The seminar was not only an occasion to reflect on the medical heritage of the great physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac, but also a platform to discuss the potential application of these values in modern medicine, encouraging younger generations to continue researching, preserving, and promoting traditional medical values.
